Job Description

EXPANDED FUNCTIONS DENTAL ASSISTANT
(Full Time)
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Responsible for assisting the dentist in the clinical treatment of patients
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OFFICE MANAGEMENT
  • Ensure that units are ready, stocked and clean at the beginning of each appointment
  • Oversee cleanliness of operatory
  • Help in other areas of the office when necessary (phones, unpacking supplies, moving dismissed patient records)
  • Close operatories at the end of the day (turning off all units, flushing lines, emptying trash, sweeping floors, etc.)
  • Record & Monitor cases sent to and received from laboratories and reconcile monthly lab statements with invoices
  • Flush VistaClear (enclosed water system) lines on a monthly basis and record such action
PATIENT MANAGEMENT
  • Seat patients and have proper setup for scheduled procedures
  • Update medical history and record changes
  • At all times, show care and concern for patients
  • Try not to leave patient unattended in chair
  • Anticipate and assist dentist's needs at all time
  • Chart all patients and record date, services rendered and note what is to be done at next visit
  • Enter procedures in the computer
  • Reappoint patients for next treatment when possible
  • Escort patients from treatment room
  • Perform clinical procedures as delegated by the dentist including, but not limited to, placement of rubber dams, placement of composite and amalgam restorations, tissue preparation for impressions, fabrication of temporary crowns, impressions for and fabrication of bleaching trays, taking and developing radiographs
  • Give patient instruction and provide a demonstration where necessary, as directed by the dentist
  • Monitor patient flow
  • Notify doctor if a patient should be called in the evening after a difficult appointment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the dentist
OFFICE PARTICIPATION
  • Be an active participant in staff meetings
  • Promote team concept by interacting with others in the office
  • Uphold and promote the ideals of the practice's mission statement
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS
Education/experience
  • High school diploma
  • Graduation from an ADA-accredited dental assisting program or dental assisting experience preferred
  • Coursework in dental instruments and procedures
  • Compliance with state dental practice requirements
  • X-ray certification and current license
  • Legible handwriting for notations in patient chart; computer skills desired (Dentrix knowledge preferred)
