About the
Role:
The Pediatric Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting pediatric dentists by ensuring a safe, comfortable, and efficient environment for young patients during dental procedures. We currently have one part-time and one full-time position open. This position involves preparing treatment rooms, performing coronal polishing, assisting during dental treatments, and providing compassionate care tailored to children s unique needs and anxieties. The assistant will also be responsible for educating patients and their guardians on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term dental health. Collaboration with the dental team to maintain high standards of infection control and patient safety is essential. Ultimately, the role contributes significantly to delivering positive dental experiences that encourage lifelong healthy habits in children.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) or completion of an accredited dental assisting program. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience or training in pediatric dental assisting preferred. Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working specifically in a pediatric dental office. Additional certifications, such as Radiology Certification, Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), Coronal Polishing, and Sealant Certification Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and comfort children effectively. Familiarity with dental practice management software.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and organize dental instruments, materials, and equipment prior to pediatric dental procedures. Assist the pediatric dentist during examinations and treatments by handing instruments, managing suction, and ensuring patient comfort. Provide clear and gentle communication to children and their guardians to alleviate fears and explain procedures in an age-appropriate manner. Maintain accurate patient records, including treatment details and observations, in compliance with privacy regulations. Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols and sterilization procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment. Schedule patient appointments and assist with administrative tasks as needed to support smooth office operations. Educate patients and their families on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventive dental care tailored for children.

The Pediatric Dental Assistant uses technical skills daily to efficiently prepare and manage dental instruments and materials, ensuring seamless support during procedures. Strong communication skills are essential for explaining treatments to children and their guardians in a reassuring and understandable way, which helps reduce patient anxiety. Organizational skills are applied to maintain accurate patient records and manage appointment scheduling, contributing to the smooth operation of the dental office. Knowledge of infection control and sterilization techniques is critical to uphold safety standards and prevent cross-contamination. Additionally, empathy and patience are vital interpersonal skills that enable the assistant to foster a positive, supportive environment for young patients.
