Job Description

SUMMARY STATEMENT
The part-time dental assistant instructor, under the direction of the Program Coordinator supervises, instructs, and evaluates both students in the classroom and clinical component of the Dental Assisting Program.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS A.
The part-time dental assistant instructor reports directly to and is responsible to the Division Director of Health Sciences. B. The position provides supervision to students enrolled in the Dental Assisting Program. C. The part-time dental assisting instructor coordinates most closely with the dental assisting, dental hygiene faculty and staff, students, and patients. In addition, this instructor works closely with the health sciences director, staff, and faculty.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1.
Provides course and clinical/lab instruction and direction to students in accordance with program objectives. 2. Critiques students' performance to insure competence. 3. Assists faculty to assess lab curriculum for each program course. 4. Supports program faculty to plan a comprehensive curriculum for each course. This includes the development of purpose, objectives, outcomes, and learning activities. 5. Supports the implementation of the curriculum in conjunction with faculty, using a variety equipment and supplies, and computer-based instruction tools and programs. 6. Collaboratively works with faculty to ensure students' achievement of learning outcomes through evaluation of competencies and skill assessment tests, reflecting the curriculum. 7. Works with dental assistant program faculty to ensure the availability of properly functioning equipment and supplies. 8. Assists faculty to set up supplies and equipment for each skill, if assigned to lab. 9. Assesses all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and function in relation to manufacturer recommendation, if assigned to lab. 10. Maintains labs in a clean and orderly fashion, if assigned to lab. 11. Maintains appropriate performance records, including assessments and competencies, student conference forms, and attendance records 12. Attend meetings as planned by the Dental Assisting Program Coordinator to keep abreast of Program calibration and to provide feedback on the Program. 13. Attend continuing education functions to stay current with educational and technological advancements. 14. Perform other duties as assigned.
