The University of Michigan School of Dentistry is seeking applications for a full-time clinical track faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Hospital Dentistry (OMFS/HD) with a potential administrative role as Director of the Integrated Special Care Clinic (ISCC) in Patient Services. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with candidate's qualifications and experience. We are seeking individuals with demonstrated excellence in clinical and didactic teaching, process improvement, and research experience, specifically in the field of Special Care Dentistry. The successful individual will also be able to demonstrate clinical proficiency in general dentistry to support dental and dental hygiene education. Evidence of interprofessional collaboration across disciplines and in the area of Special Care Dentistry is required. The applicant's previous experiences will emphasize a strong commitment to service and community-based dentistry. Candidates should have a DDS/DMD degree and the ability to obtain unrestricted licensure in the State of Michigan. Advanced training in a hospital setting caring for patients with special healthcare needs (SHCNs) and medical complexity is required, which may include dental oncology, oral medicine, special care, and/or geriatric dentistry. Prior experience with teledentistry, teaching at the predoctoral and postgraduate levels, as well as providing direct patient care in a hospital-based or similar setting, is required. Responsibilities will include didactic and clinical mentorship and instruction of dental and dental hygiene students and graduate students/general practice residents, as well as scholarly activity and service. Service activities include, but are not limited to, providing direct general dental care both in person and by telehealth using appropriate modifications. Patient Services responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of processes to promote the smooth operation of the ISCC, coordination with various stakeholders for this ongoing clinical and teaching initiative, and participation in scholarship-related efforts to promote the management, fundraising, and advocacy for people with SHCNs and medical complexity. The School of Dentistry supports a model for dental education that includes digital dentistry, evidence-based dentistry, and interdisciplinary education and care. OMFS/HD and Patient Services have active mentorship programs and provide ample opportunities for participation in clinical faculty practice and the development of independent and/or collaborative research programs. Promotion of the mission and services of Hospital Dentistry and the ISCC beyond the School of Dentistry will include University-based and community partnerships as well as collaboration with other oral health professionals with similar missions.
