Job Description

Job description: At Pediatric Dentistry of Romeo, we want team members who are as passionate as we are about working together to drive better life outcomes for our patients. Position type : Full time. This will be a travelling role, also required to work at our offices in Richmond, Algonac, and St. Clair.
Role Summary:
The Assistant will perform limited clinical duties under the direction of a licensed Doctor. Clinical duties may include equipment preparation and sterilization, preparing patients for treatment, assisting the Doctor during treatment, and providing patients with instructions for oral healthcare procedures. The Assistant may perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining dental records, billing, and coding information for coding purposes. They may also perform tasks in maintaining the cleanliness of the office. The Assistant will assist the Doctor, set up equipment, prepare patients for treatment, and keep records.
Reporting Lines:
The Assistant will report directly to the Managing Doctor. The Assistant will not have any direct reports. Reporting lines and direct reports may change from time to time in line with the requirements of the position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patient, sterilize, or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays,
  • Prepare materials or assist dentist during dental procedures.
  • Assist Doctor in management of medical or dental emergencies.
  • Order and monitor dental supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Take dental diagnostic x-rays.
  • Make preliminary impressions for study.
  • Help fit orthodontic appliances for patients, such as retainers, wires, or bands.
  • Taking quality intraoral and extraoral photographs.
  • Apply fluoride and SDF to teeth and do coronal polishing.
  • Provide post-operative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients if necessary.
  • Record treatment information in patient records.
  • Assist doctor as needed on preventative procedures.
Experience & Qualifications/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).
  • Prefers 1 - 2 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPR Certified
  • Post-secondary certificate from an accredited Dental Assistant Program.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent GED)
  • Coronal polishing and fluoride application.
  • Licensed to take x-rays.
  • Prefer EFDA but not mandatory.
Minimum Physical Capabilities:
To be able to perform normal duties as an Assistant, must be able to perform all the following physical capabilities:
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs. floor to waist height.
  • > 25 lbs. to shoulder height occasionally.
  • Forward reaching, fine motor control (hand and arm) consistently.
  • Sitting for up to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Occasionally bending and squatting.
  • Occasionally pushing and pulling to assist with patient care/transfer.
