JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Dental Assistant will oversee and coordinate clinical care under the supervision of the Clinical Practice Supervisor. The Lead Dental Assistant will oversee and support day to day patient flow, develop, implement and ensure adherence to clinical procedures and manage emergent situations. Assists the Clinical Practice Manager in coordination the interaction between dental assistants, hygienists, residents, student learners, faculty, and the Dental Leadership team to ensure consistent quality patient experiences. The Lead Dental Assistant will assist in the management and planning of how services are delivered and contribute to the process of strategic planning, influencing and responding to organizational priorities for the dental practice in conjunction with the Clinical Practice Supervisor, Administrative Director, Medical Director, and Department Chair.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the resolution of issues pertinent to daily clinical activities Leads the implementation of policies and procedures within the practice alongside the Clinical Practice Supervisor Leads and supports onboarding and training of new clinical support staff, AROWS student learners, and Dental Assistant student learners Promotes and supports a team-oriented approach among clinical support staff, business office staff and providers Participates in interviews and makes hiring recommendations for dental assisting staff with input from the Clinical Practice Supervisor Ensures day to day Infection Prevention/OSHA compliance in coordination with the Clinical Practice Supervisor and Medical Director FQHC, PFA, CCA, and CBO Support Liaison real time in clinic Participates in Clinical and MAHEC committees and meetings as appropriate Active leading role in DA meetings alongside Clinical Practice Supervisor Maintains a cooperative relationship among MAHEC health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem solving methods Assesses quality and appropriateness of patient care provided by dental assistant staff in conjunction with the Clinical Practice Supervisor and initiates remediation plans as appropriate Serves as a role model for dental assistant team by demonstrating professionalism with minimal unplanned absences and consistent punctuality in reporting to work Supports dental division QI projects and supports the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and new workflows along with Clinical Practice Supervisor Maintains timely, open, and positive communication with faculty who are attending, business office and other support staff for coordination of patient care Works directly with IT, Facilities, Business Office Manager, Front Desk Supervisor and Faculty Attending to promptly address clinic issues as they arise Support the engagement of staff in MAHEC's performance evaluation feedback and professional goal setting process in coordination with the Clinical Practice Supervisor Performs all dental assistant duties required for full time faculty Expert in ePads, x-ray sensors, Dentrix/MiPacs trainings/workflow, Cerec Primescan, Romexis, etc. Keeps up-to-date inventory of consumables and is responsible for weekly ordering and receiving of invoices Large equipment expert: care/storage/troubleshooting/maintenance of intra oral cameras, laser, extra oral suction units, obturation systems, cavitrons, trans-illuminators, electric surge, amalgamator, etc. Equipment/maintenance scheduling with service technicians as needed Partners with the Clinical Practice Supervisor to provide biweekly feedback for the Dental Assistant team, and gives regular updates on goal progress and team needs. C ompletion of an accredited Dental Assisting program Minimum three years Dental Assisting experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with faculty, students and residents preferred Experience working in front office is preferred Dentrix Enterprise, Romexis, MiPacs experience is preferred Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification preferred.REQUIRED LICENSES
Current CPR certification Certification in Radiology. Certification in monitoring nitrous-oxide preferred.SCHEDULE
Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday- Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required.
