Job Description

Job Summary Join our dedicated correctional healthcare team as a Dental Assistant specializing in correctional dentistry! In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive dental support within a correctional facility, ensuring inmates receive high-quality dental care in a secure and sterile environment. Your expertise will help maintain optimal oral health, support dental procedures, and uphold strict infection control standards. Duties Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments using aseptic techniques to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Assist dentists during various procedures such as restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, utilizing chairside assisting skills. Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans and medical imaging, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed. Manage patient records accurately in electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, including documenting medical and dental histories, vital signs, and treatment notes. Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient confidentiality. Support administrative tasks like scheduling appointments, managing medical documentation, and coordinating with dental reception staff to streamline clinic operations. Ensure infection control standards are maintained through proper sterilization procedures and adherence to OSHA guidelines. Requirements Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures and terminology. Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; familiarity with medical coding and documentation is preferred. Certification in dental assisting or equivalent training; experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely following radiation safety protocols; knowledge of 3D scanners is advantageous. Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge, and HIPAA regulations. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages—including pediatrics—and collaborate with healthcare professionals. Knowledge of medical terminology related to dentistry and general health assessments like vital signs measurement.
