The primary purpose of this position is to perform the duties within professional dental care, which assists the Dental Director, Dentists, and Dental Hygienists in the care and treatment of patients. Also Performs the duties in the field of reception, chairside assisting, inventorying and records as outlined by the Ohio State Dental Board permissible duties for Dental Assistants. Responsibilities
PATIENT POPULATION
- (CLINICAL ONLY) Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect. Aspiration and retraction, excluding placement of gingival retraction materials. Intra-oral instrument transfer. Preliminary charting of missing and filled teeth. Elastomeric impressions for diagnostic models and models to be used for opposing models in the construction of appliances and restorations.
Job Function:
- Taking impressions for the construction of custom athletic mouth protectors/mouth guards. Taking impressions for the construction of trays for application of medicaments. Application of disclosing solutions. Caries susceptibility testing. Demonstrate oral hygiene procedures, including, but not limited to, toothbrush and dental floss usage. Shade selection for fabrication of appliances or restorations. Application of topical anesthetics. Fluoride application, limited to liquid or gel applications. Topical applications of desensitizing agents to teeth. Application of periodontal dressings (packs). Removal of periodontal dressings (packs). Suture removal. Placement of rubber dam over pre-placed clamp, and removal of clamp and rubber dam. Application of cavity varnish. Placement of surgical dressings. Removal of surgical dressings. Intra-oral bite registrations for diagnostic model articulation. Intra-oral bite registrations for restorations. Intra-oral bite registrations for appliances. Standard, diagnostic, radiologic procedures for contributing to the provision of dental services. All supportive services necessary to the maintenance of a hygienic practice environment, including, but not limited to, all sterilizing procedures. Qualifications Graduation from high school required Must maintain current BLS certification. Possess and maintain a current Ohio dental x-ray machine operators license.
