Overview We are seeking a skilled and motivated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with the ability to perform expanded functions to enhance patient care and streamline clinical operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vibrant pediatric and general dentistry practice dedicated to improving smiles and fostering positive dental experiences. Responsibilities Assist the dentist during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques. Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, placement of temporary restorations, and other duties authorized by state regulations. Take and develop high-quality X-ray images while ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques. Manage patient records efficiently using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding. Obtain vital signs and medical histories, maintaining comprehensive medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following strict infection control standards to maintain a safe clinical environment. Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and providing excellent customer service. Utilize knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology to communicate effectively with patients and team members. Operate advanced dental technology including 3D scanners for diagnostics and treatment planning. Assist with medical imaging procedures as needed for comprehensive patient assessments in general dentistry and pediatrics. Qualifications Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) credential with current licensure as required by state regulations. Proven experience in dental assisting within a busy clinical setting, preferably with pediatric dentistry experience. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic or similar platforms is advantageous. Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures. Knowledge of dental procedures across specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry. Ability to perform X-ray imaging accurately while maintaining patient comfort and safety standards. Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients about procedures and oral health practices. Familiarity with medical coding, documentation standards, and HIPAA compliance for safeguarding patient information.
