Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic dental team as an Orthodontic Assistant and become a vital part of transforming smiles! In this energetic role, you will support orthodontists in delivering exceptional patient care, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and maintaining a welcoming environment for all. Your expertise in dental assisting combined with a passion for pediatric dentistry and orthodontics will help patients achieve confident, healthy smiles. Duties Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings using four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental materials, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly while adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Take and develop X-rays and medical imaging such as 3D scans to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning, ensuring proper radiation safety measures are followed. Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Eaglesoft and Dentrix, accurately documenting patient information, treatment plans, and progress notes while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Support patients by explaining procedures, answering questions about orthodontic appliances, and assisting with chairside assisting duties including vital signs measurement and patient comfort. Coordinate with dental receptionists to schedule appointments, update medical documentation, and ensure smooth communication across the dental clinic team. Maintain knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical coding to ensure precise documentation and effective communication within the team. Qualifications Proven experience in dental assisting within a general dentistry or orthodontic setting; familiarity with dental clinic operations is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures to ensure patient safety. Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic or similar medical documentation platforms is a plus. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while adhering to HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy. Excellent understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge related to pediatrics and prosthodontics, as well as endodontics. Skilled in chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and managing medical imaging equipment like 3D scanners. Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles and experience working with children is desirable but not mandatory.
