The Dental Assistant is responsible for keeping records, managing clerical detail, providing diagnosis aids to the dentist and in performing clinical supportive functions such as inventory and supply maintenance. The Dental Assistant is responsible for exposing, develop and mounting dental x-rays and performs various duties pertaining to keep the view of oral cavity clear and dry. This individual will perform clinical supportive functions including preparing and dismissing patients as well as performing various dental treatments and laboratory tasks. The position can be either part-time (2 days per week) or ideally full-time at 4 days per week (Monday through Thursday). The hours are 8:45am to 5:15pm. Benefits listed are for full-time employment. Job Responsibilities Receive patients and prepare them for necessary dental procedures; Breakdown and sterilize treatment rooms between patients; Record findings from oral examination; During oral examination or treatment, provide instruments and dispense materials as directed by operator; Provide pre/post-operative care for patients undergoing general or local anesthesia; Clear the patient's mouth of salvia or dental materials used in the treatment by operating handheld suction or air and water-spraying equipment; Mix amalgam and synthetic fillings material according to instructions; Clean and sterilize the instruments used after treatment, clean and tidy the surgery and implement standard decontamination procedures for infection control; Exposes and processes x-ray film as directed by the Dentist; Maintain and re-stock dental supplies including carts, gloves and film. Make hygiene packs and cut x-ray holders according to instructions; Perform routine care and maintenance of dental equipment and instruments; Perform other related work as assigned such as occasionally answering the telephone and performing ad hoc office duties; Occasional local outreach and marketing duties to expand patient pool. Thoroughly review medical history and make notations in patients' chart; Required Experiences and Skills High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Active X-ray license from the Commonwealth of PA Ability to concentrate and to follow instructions. Ability to work individually or as part of a team, often in a high-pressure environment. Good communication skills and interpersonal skills. Good organizational ability and time management skills. Location/Travel As Kids Smiles has a strong team atmosphere, it is expected that at times when one office is short staffed, team members will make themselves available to cover shifts in the other clinics.
