Job Description

Chief Purpose of the Position The Dental Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality patient care within VCU Dental Care's Faculty Practice. This role is responsible for preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials; assisting faculty dentists/providers with clinical procedures; and performing delegated duties in accordance with Virginia regulations and VCU Dental Care policies. The Dental Assistant ensures patient comfort, promotes efficient clinical workflow, maintains appropriate supply inventory, provides patient education as directed by the provider, and adheres to OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and all institutional safety and compliance standards. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required Knowledge of dental procedures, materials, instruments, supplies, and equipment Knowledge of infection control principles and sterilization standards Knowledge of dental radiography techniques in compliance with federal and state regulations Knowledge of dental record documentation and basic office procedures Proficiency with basic computer systems and electronic health records Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment Ability to provide professional, patient-centered customer service Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Education and Experience Required High school diploma or equivalent required X-ray certification required Current CPR certification preferred CDA certification preferred Minimum of two (2) years of dental assisting experience required

Commensurate with experience
