Job Description

Essential Job Duties:
Prepare treatment rooms and ensure all instruments and materials are ready from procedures. Assist dentists during examinations and dental procedures, including handing instruments and suctioning. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and maintain infection control standards. Take and process dental radiographs as directed. Record treatment information in patient charts accurately. Schedule appointments and manage patient flow in coordination with front office staff. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care. Monitor inventory of dental supplies and request replenishment as needed. Comply with OSHA and HIPAA regulations for patient safety and confidentiality. Support emergency dental care and community outreach programs as required.
Additional Duties:
Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or above. Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
Physical Activity Level:
This position is considered having light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.
Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to frequently stand and walk during patient care activities. The employee must be able to position themselves to assist dentists, including bending, reaching, and handling instruments. Occasional lifting of dental equipment or supply boxes up to 25 pounds may be required. Manual dexterity and visual acuity are essential for handling instruments, taking radiographs, and documenting patient records. The role also requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
Work Environment:
The employee primarily works in a clinical setting within the health department's dental suite, which is well-lit, climate controlled, and equipped with dentist chairs, instruments, and sterilization equipment. The role involves exposure to dental materials, disinfectants, and occasional radiographic equipment. There is frequent interaction with patients and dental staff in a fast-paced environment. Occasional travel to community dental clinics or outreach events may be required. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
