Closed Job Purpose The Dental Hygienist plays a vital role in our preventative care framework. You will perform clinical teeth cleanings, conduct comprehensive oral, head, and neck examinations for signs of periodontal or systemic disease, take diagnostic digital x-rays, and apply preventative treatments such as fluoride or sealants. A primary focus of this role is patient advocacy—educating patients on optimal oral hygiene practices to achieve long-term health.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Clinical Care:
Remove calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath the gingival margins using specialized dental instruments.
Diagnostic Screenings:
Examine gums using periodontal probes to map recession and identify signs of periodontal disease. Perform oral cancer screenings by palpating lymph nodes to detect swelling or abnormalities.
Preventative Treatments:
Apply fluorides, sealants, or other cavity-preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
Patient Records:
Accurately record and review detailed patient medical histories. Document and chart conditions of decay, disease, and pocket depths for seamless diagnosis and treatment planning by the Dentist.
Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain, sterilize, and sharpen dental instruments and ensure all operatory equipment meets stringent infection control standards.
Patient Education:
Provide individualized health education and oral hygiene instructions to improve and maintain the oral health of our patients.
Operational Support:
Perform other clinical or administrative duties as assigned by management to ensure smooth daily patient flow.
Core Qualifications & Requirements Education & Licensure Minimum Degree:
Associate degree or successful completion of an accredited dental hygiene vocational/college program.
Licensure:
Active and valid Alabama State Dental Hygienist License (or processing in final stages). Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing, leaning, and precision bending over the operatory chair. Sufficient manual dexterity to safely operate dental tools. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Skills & Competencies for Success Category Key Competencies Required Clinical Knowledge Direct understanding of information and clinical techniques needed to assess, diagnose, and treat oral diseases and deformities.

Exceptional ability to make precisely coordinated movements of fingers and hands to manipulate small objects in tight spaces.
Near Vision:
Excellent close-range visual acuity. Patient Service High service orientation—actively looking for ways to comfort, support, and help patients. Ability to communicate complex clinical details clearly.
