THIS ISN'T YOUR TYPICAL DENTAL JOB
Let's be honest: in most offices, hygienists are scheduled back-to-back for prophys, given 45 minutes per patient, and expected to stay in their lane. Your clinical expertise gets reduced to "the cleaning." Not here. We're a brand-new, doctor-owned practice in St. Petersburg, and we're redefining what hygiene means in our office. Our Hygiene Coordinator doesn't just clean teeth — you're a co-diagnostician, a perio educator, a patient relationship builder, and a key driver of practice growth. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with the doctor to ensure patients understand the connection between their oral health and overall wellbeing. When your column has openings, you're not sitting idle — you're calling patients, filling your own schedule, reactivating overdue patients, and building the hygiene department into the profit center and patient care engine it should be.
OUR CORE VALUES
Everyone Matters — Your voice matters here. We want you to tell us what's working, what's not, what you need, and where we can improve. This isn't a top-down practice — it's a team. Everything Matters — From how the phone is answered to how the office smells when patients walk in, to how we follow up on recare. Details create the experience, and we obsess over the details. Take Control — Like the Ritz-Carlton, every team member here has the authority to make decisions that improve the patient experience. You are a leader, not just an employee.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
Comprehensive periodontal assessments, probing, charting, and patient education — help patients truly understand their perio status and what it means Prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, and periodontal maintenance with clinical excellence Be the doctor's second set of eyes: notice decay, lesions, broken restorations, and help patients see what you see (intraoral cameras, X-rays, photos) Patient education that drives treatment acceptance — when you explain why SRP matters, patients say yes because they understand, not because they feel pressured Hygiene-to-doctor handoff: present findings clearly, set the doctor up for success in the exam Build your own schedule: When you have openings, you're on the phone calling recall patients, reactivating overdue patients, and filling your column. This isn't busywork — this is practice building.
Recare system ownership:
Ensure patients stay on schedule. Follow up personally when they fall off. Review unscheduled treatment during recare visits and advocate for patients to complete their care Maintain and calibrate hygiene instruments and equipment Participate in case presentation and treatment planning discussions with the team Mentor clinical team on perio protocols and oral hygiene instruction techniques
WHAT MAKES YOU THE RIGHT FIT
Active Florida RDH license (non-negotiable) Minimum 2 years of clinical hygiene experience Strong periodontal knowledge and genuine passion for helping patients understand their oral health Comfortable with treatment presentation — you don't just identify problems, you help patients commit to solutions Proactive about schedule management — you see an opening and you work to fill it, not wait for someone else to Excellent communication skills: you can make scaling and root planing understandable to a patient who's never heard the term Proficiency with digital radiography, intraoral cameras, and practice management software You believe hygiene is the backbone of a healthy practice, not a commodity service CPR/BLS current
BONUS POINTS
Bilingual (Spanish/English) — allows us to serve our community at the highest level Experience with laser therapy, Arestin, or other adjunctive perio therapies Local anesthesia certification Experience with Open Dental Background in periodontal specialty practice Experience building a hygiene department or working in a startup practice Nitrous oxide monitoring certification
WHAT WE OFFER YOU
Growth-based pay: $32- $35/hr base + production bonuses for practice performance CE/training allowance — including advanced perio courses, laser certification, and more Attend dental courses and conferences as a team Direct collaboration with the practice owner — your clinical input shapes treatment planning Autonomy over your hygiene department: build the protocols, design the recall systems, own the results Start part-time — 2 days a week (Tuesday & Thursday) — and grow into full-time as the practice grows.
A true ground-floor opportunity:
you'll help build the hygiene department and grow right along with it. A practice that values hygiene as a clinical discipline, not a commodity
YOUR GROWTH PATH HERE
Hygienist → Lead Hygienist → Hygiene Department Director (as practice grows and additional hygienists are hired) Hygienist → Clinical Educator / Perio Specialist within the practice Hygienist → Practice Leadership role if you want to move toward the business side We'll talk about YOUR goals in week one and build a plan together.
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF
… You want to do prophys on autopilot and avoid difficult perio conversations with patients Calling patients to fill your own schedule feels "beneath you" You see hygiene as completely separate from the rest of the practice You're not interested in working with the dentist to support treatment acceptance You prefer to work in isolation rather than as part of an integrated team
