POSITION OVERVIEW
The Dental Hygienist is a member of the dental team whose primary responsibility is to provide preventive periodontal treatment, patient education, and assist the dentist(s).
SCHEDULE & PAY
This is a full time, 1.0 FTE (40 hour) position. The clinic hours are Mon.-Thurs. 8AM-7PM, Fri. 8AM-5PM and Sat. 8AM-12PM. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000/year, dependent on education level and experience. DUTIES Takes and record blood pressure, temperature, and pulse. Complete and/or update medical and dental history. Responsible for evaluating patient's teeth and gums, and recording the presence of disease, abnormalities, or existing restorations; calling dentist, when appropriate, for immediate consultation. Makes decisions in collaboration with dentist regarding the plan of care. Takes and mount x-rays. Instructs patients in oral hygiene technique, answer patient questions and provide other educational information relevant to oral hygiene. Administers prophylactic treatment by the scaling and polishing of teeth. Uses rotary and ultrasonic instruments to clean teeth. Applies topical anesthetic and local anesthetic if permitted by state practice laws. Administers fluoride treatment as needed. Removes sutures and periodontal dressings. Responsible for providing patient dental education Takes impression for night-guards and mouth-guards. Provides associated administrative support, including maintaining patient documentation, patient communication and other record keeping. Prepares operatories for patient treatment. Sterilizes instruments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Have and maintain in good standing a Dental Hygienist license by the State of Iowa. Local Anesthetic Permit issued by the State of Iowa.
