  • $60 an hour Dental Hygienists are key members of a dental practice responsible for preventive care, patient screening, and assisting with more complex procedures as needed.
This position centers on building rapport with patients, delivering clinical preventive services, and contributing to treatment planning through careful assessment and documentation. Hygienists support the dentist by identifying problems early, educating patients, and implementing measures that reduce disease risk. Typical duties and responsibilities include the following: Screening patients during checkups: performing oral cancer checks, periodontal assessments, and visual inspections to detect abnormalities Reviewing a patient's dental history, past treatments, and medical history to create a comprehensive picture that informs safe, effective care Recommending care to improve a patient's oral health, including preventive strategies, referral for restorative work, or periodontal therapy as appropriate Teaching patients about proper teeth cleaning techniques, demonstrating brushing and flossing methods, and offering guidance on interdental aids and behavior change Performing preventive dental care including scaling, polishing, and routine periodontal maintenance to manage plaque and calculus Applying fluoride treatments and placing dental sealants to prevent decay for both children and adults at elevated risk Taking x-rays, processing and reviewing images for signs of dental disease, evaluating restorations and bone levels, and communicating findings with the dental team Hygienists are also responsible for accurate charting, maintaining infection control standards, operating and maintaining radiographic and hygiene instruments, and participating in patient scheduling and follow-up care. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a preventive mindset help ensure positive patient outcomes and support the overall efficiency and safety of the practice.
