Job Description

Position Summary The Dental Hygienist in St. Paul, MN provides preventive and therapeutic oral healthcare services to patients in a community health center setting. This role focuses on oral disease prevention, patient education, and supporting dentists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care as part of an integrated care team. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care Perform dental cleanings (prophylaxis), scaling and root planing, and periodontal maintenance Conduct oral health assessments, including periodontal charting and risk assessments Take and interpret dental radiographs (x-rays) Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride varnish and sealants Assist dentists with exams and procedures as needed Identify conditions requiring further evaluation and refer to dentist appropriately Patient Education & Engagement Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques, disease prevention, and nutrition Promote patient understanding and long-term oral health habits Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive care Collaboration & Program Support Work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and front-office staff Collaborate with medical and behavioral health teams as part of an integrated care model Participate in community outreach, school-based programs, and health education initiatives Documentation, Compliance & Quality Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic dental record (EDR) Follow infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols Ensure compliance with OSHA, CDC, and state dental board regulations Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives Required Qualifications Associate or Bachelor s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program Current Minnesota Dental Hygienist license Local anesthesia certification (if required by state) CPR/BLS certification Preferred Qualifications Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting Experience treating Medicaid and underserved populations Familiarity with electronic dental records Bilingual skills a plus Our Benefits We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support your health, financial well-being, and professional growth: Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Company-Paid Life Insurance Company-Paid Short-Term Disability 403(b) Retirement Plan Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) 10 Company-Paid Holidays Continuing Medical Education (CME) Work Environment Mission-driven, team-based clinical setting Supportive leadership and collaborative dental team Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused practice
