  • Dental hygienists, under the supervision of the dentists and Dental Manager, provide oral health services to patients, focusing on oral health education.
Job Qualifications:
  • Commitment to the Viola Startzman Clinic mission and philosophy of care
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment, and be able to work in a changing environment
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of self-motivation and time management, effectively prioritizing tasks and maintaining effective workflow
  • Current license to practice as a dental hygienist in the State of Ohio
  • Current Hepatitis B vaccinations, TB testing, and CPR certification Accident and/or
Health Hazards:
  • Presence within the clinic may lead to exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation, and/or other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Work Environment:
  • The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment.
The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, volunteers, patients, and/or members of the public on a regular basis.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Work with administrative staff to schedule hygiene patients with efficiency
  • Set up treatment rooms for procedures with proper equipment, tools, and/or instruments
  • Escort patients to and from treatment rooms
  • Obtain and review health histories before patient is seen
  • Take dental radiographs electronically as prescribed by dentist
  • Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis for patients, including removal of plaque and calculus from all surfaces of the teeth
  • Perform scaling, root planing, and selective polishing for patients as appropriate
  • Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by dental practice act
  • Place medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease treatment
  • Apply cavity-preventive agents, such as fluorides and sealants
  • Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way
  • Instruct patients on proper oral health strategies, including brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling
  • Check on patient comfort during treatment and help allay patient anxiety
  • Chart patients and record date, services rendered, periodontal health and any charges
  • Ensure proper treatment notes are recorded in patient charts
  • Keep dental units ready, stocked, and clean
  • Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures
  • Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations and Viola Startzman Clinic guidelines
  • Sterilize all instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations and Viola Startzman Clinic guidelines
  • Keep trays, instruments, and treatment room drawers organized
  • Transport trays according to OSHA regulations and Viola Startzman Clinic guidelines
  • Follow OSHA guidelines and Viola Startzman Clinic guidelines for PPE, including appropriate attire when handling patient care
  • Maintain maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment
  • Securely handle patient records in compliance with state and federal requirements, including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations
  • Monitor inventory of dental office supplies
  • Ensure that treatment rooms are stocked at all times
  • Collaborate with medical personnel for integrated patient care, when necessary
  • Help in other areas of the office when necessary
Pay:
$40.00 - $45.00 per hour
