  • Technical/Trade Organizational Unit Overview The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments.
The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences. Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed. Job Duties This position will be responsible but not limited to the following:
  • Operation of digital intraoral and extraoral dental imaging equipment including Cone Beam Computed Tomography ( CBCT) technology.
  • Assist with calibrations and inspections of radiation generating equipment.
  • Develop and maintain infection control practices for radiographic imaging of patients in the clinical environment.
  • Maintain inventory of all imaging equipment in Ross Hall
  • Develop and maintain inventory of preclinical laboratory supplies
  • Maintain dosimeter monitoring badges and reports
  • Maintain training records for the school's Radiation Safety Program
  • Provide new staff, resident and faculty orientation in the use of imaging equipment, image acquisition, radiation safety, quality assurance and infection control for imaging equipment
  • Provide preclinical and clinical orientation to students
  • Supervise and assess students' clinical performance in image acquisition, radiation safety and image quality assurance.
  • Generate data in the preparation for radiologic research
  • Interact with vendors to evaluate new supplies and radiographic equipment
  • Assist with the recruitment of imaging staff Minimum Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in medical diagnostics; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licenses. License or Certification required by statute or regulation None Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Experience in supervising clinical staff, students, residents, and faculty in areas of radiation technology and radiation safety Experience in dental imaging Clinical teaching experience Working knowledge of the North Carolina Radiation Protection regulations as they pertain to dentistry License or Certification required by the Department Current NC Dental Hygiene License ( RDH) and or DANB Certified Dental Assistant ( CDA).
