Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Orthodontic Sterilization Technician to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of infection control protocols, sterilization procedures, and dental clinic operations. As an essential member of our orthodontic practice, you will ensure that all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, maintained, and ready for use, supporting the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic environment focused on pediatric dentistry, general dentistry, and orthodontics. Responsibilities Perform sterilization of orthodontic and dental instruments using autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and other sterilization equipment in accordance with infection control standards. Maintain detailed records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality. Prepare and organize sterilized instruments for chairside assisting during patient procedures, including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments. Assist with inventory management by monitoring supplies such as dental burs, handpieces, and sterilization materials to ensure availability and proper storage. Support the dental team by assisting with chairside procedures, including taking vital signs, medical documentation, and medical imaging as needed. Follow aseptic techniques consistently to prevent cross-contamination during all sterilization and handling processes. Collaborate with dental reception staff to coordinate patient flow and ensure timely preparation of sterilized tools for scheduled appointments. Adhere to all safety protocols related to infection control, medical terminology, and anatomy knowledge to uphold the highest standards of patient care. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic or orthodontic practice with a focus on sterilization procedures is highly preferred. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is advantageous for managing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and medical documentation is essential. Experience with dental assisting tasks including chairside assisting, X-ray procedures, and pediatric dentistry support is desirable. Understanding of infection control practices specific to general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry environments. Proficiency in using 3D scanners or other medical imaging tools can be beneficial but is not mandatory. Strong grasp of dental terminology, medical coding, and medical records management will enhance your effectiveness in this role.
