A Brief Overview The Dialysis Technician is responsible for direct patient care to include operation and monitoring of a variety of machines related to hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, daily patient care, and observations under the direct supervision and guidance of a registered nurse. This position is responsible for assuring quality controls and safety checks are completed by policy and protocol. Assures all equipment and supplies are current and compliant with policy, procedure, and regulatory standards and requirements. The dialysis technician may perform phlebotomy or obtain blood samples and prepare them for transport to the lab. This position may be responsible for performing both simple and complex laboratory tests. Assists in delivery of training materials to instruct patients and their families, as well as staff and other dialysis technicians, in principles and practices of dialysis. Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines and protocols to perform the functions of the job. What you will do Provides direct patient care including performing patient treatment from start to finish and handling daily operations between patient and dialysis machine. Responsible for water quality and quality control checks as defined by policy and regulations. Responsible for opening and closing the dialysis department. Responds to machine alarms according to established procedures and protocols. Assists in the patient discharge and transfer practice, as directed by the RN, including but not limited to gathering patient belongings and transporting patient to/from dialysis to the inpatient unit. Performs dialysis required laboratory procedures and quality control which may include specimen collection, blood sugar testing, completion of patient identification and specimen labeling per TH policy and procedure. Documents are all delivered to the patient according to established policy and procedure. Participate in quality improvement activities, including unit councils and workgroups. Supports patient advocacy, patient rights and responsibilities, and service standards. Follows established safety and emergency policies and procedures in daily practice or emergency situations including handling of equipment and supplies during emergencies. Education Qualifications High School Diploma with completion of technician training or certification regulations adopted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Required Experience Qualifications 2-4 years related experience Required Skills and Abilities Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures. Licenses and Certifications Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician
  • Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission Preferred or Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (Advanced)
  • Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission Preferred Basic Life Support Certified
  • American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire.
