Job Description

Meritus Health is seeking a Unit Nutrition Assistant to join our Nutrition Services team. In this role, you will help deliver high-quality food service to patients by ensuring accurate meal selections, safe food handling, and excellent customer service. You will serve as a liaison between patients, dietitians, and foodservice staff to promote optimal nutrition care and maximize patient satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Retrieve, evaluate, and process diet orders/messages and communicate updates to Nutrition Services and Nursing staff. Collect patient meal selections via in-person visits or phone calls, ensuring compliance with diet orders and patient preferences. Process meal tickets/tally sheets and deliver trays to patients according to schedule. Answer and direct phone calls in a professional and courteous manner. Operate CBORD and Bedside menu entry systems accurately. Practice safe food handling, storage, and infection control in compliance with departmental and regulatory standards (HACCP, TJC, MD Dept. of Health).
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
1-2 years of food service experience preferred, particularly with modified diets and direct customer service. Clerical/typing ability preferred.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Patient-focused and service-oriented.
