Kitchen Assistant/Dietary Aide (Off Site Meal Prep)

Non-Exempt Primary Purpose of Job The purpose of the position is manage meal service at a CHCS senior community center where meals have been prepared off site and delivered. Part of the position is to maintain the overall safety and cleanliness of the senior community center. Essential Job Functions Serve prepared food according to menu and with attention to specified portions. Provide assistance to participants as needed. Clean kitchen and dining areas, equipment, steam tables, dishes, utensils, etc. Assist with receiving food deliveries and supplies. Monitor temperatures and compliance with other food safety standards. Other Job Functions Responsible to be knowledgeable and to implement the Mission and Philosophy of the Archdiocese and organization within the scope of responsibility. Adheres to established policies and procedures for Catholic Human Services at all times. Treat all consumers/clients/participants, staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners with dignity and respect. Demonstrate high standards of attendance and timeliness. Attend meetings, trainings, and events, as needed/assigned, to facilitate communication, collaboration, and overall quality of service. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Perform daily cleaning both inside and outside the senior center. Mop and wax floors in public areas and kitchen; vacuums or sweeps offices; dusts furniture; cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; maintains cleanliness of exterior premises; washes windows as needed. Empty waste baskets and trash cans daily. Ensure that all trash and recycling are placed in designated receptacles and are outside for collection at scheduled times. Ensure that facility security system and fire alarm system are in proper working order and are tested regularly. Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies, tools, and equipment. Purchase or request supplies as needed. Maintain neat and orderly supply/storage rooms. Keep tools and equipment clean and in working order. Perform minor maintenance duties (e.g., replacing light bulbs, repairing minor damage to locks, plumbing, etc.). Notify supervisor of major maintenance and repair needs. Ensure seasonal work is completed in a timely fashion (e.g., installing/removing air conditioners, window screens, and storm windows). Assist with special arrangements for parties and special events at the center (e.g., setting up tables and chairs, decorating, cleaning up). Implement pest control practices and exterminate center or designated spaces as directed. Attend training as required by CHCS and appropriate regulatory and funding bodies. Participate in staff meetings and supervision. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Education High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience/Abilities Experience in food service and ability to follow safe food handling practices. ServSafe certified, or able to meet certification requirements within a specified timeframe (e.g., 6 months of hire). Is flexible, hospitable, able to work independently and to follow directions consistently. Demonstrated adherence to timeliness and attendance standards. Physical Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices) Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during work hours. Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. up to 50 pounds. Work Environment Kitchen - must be comfortable using equipment and appliances, and with exposure to associated risks (e.g., heat, cooking odors, etc.) Must work respectfully and effectively with participants, personnel, and center visitors under a variety of circumstances and conditions. Must be able to work effectively with older adults in a community setting, respectful of their dignity and right to self-determination. Work within the senior centers is subject to frequent interruptions. Most tasks are routine and well-defined, but with day-to-day variation. Language For some Centers, fluency in English and languages other than English may be required or preferred.
