The Degreed Nutritionist/Certified Lactation Educator/Regional Breastfeeding Liaison is responsible for determining nutritional risks, prescribing the food benefits as well as evaluating the participants for the WIC Program according to State of California guidelines. Provides nutrition counseling and education in WIC Clinics and plans appropriate follow up for high-risk participants in the Care Plan as well as evaluating/resolves breastfeeding issues. Educates healthcare providers, community-based organizations and hospitals about the benefits of breastfeeding, the services provided by the WIC Program and to promote the Baby Friendly designation of the World Health Organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote the Initiatives of the California WIC Program Demonstrate the Healthy Habits for Life Initiative for WIC staff and participants Participate in Community Collaborations to promote healthy eating Conducts Nutrition Assessment for WIC Participants Evaluates height, weight, and lab values from medical form Evaluates nutrition questionnaire Evaluates and prioritizes nutrition risks Nutrition Education Provides nutrition counseling on

correctly Breastfeeding Education and Support Evaluate breastfeeding problems Develop an appropriate plan of care for mom and baby Assist all WIC staff with supporting moms to breastfeed Assist with breastfeeding rounds in the hospital as needed Teach and facilitate participant breastfeeding class/support groups Be a resource person for providers, nurses, and the medical community Breastfeeding Consultant and Liaison Participates in meetings with AVMC nursing management on breastfeeding related issues as requested Provides guidance and support on the hospital's Baby Friendly efforts Attends and actively participants in the AVMC Lactation Team meetings Provide Breastfeeding Education to Healthcare Providers, Community-Based Organizations, and Hospitals in the Antelope Valley. Conduct visits to pediatric and OB clinics to promote breastfeeding Attend community-based meetings to promote breastfeeding Actively participate in the Antelope Valley Breastfeeding Coalition Provide breastfeeding education materials to pediatric clinics, OB clinics and community-based organizations Supports community efforts to promote breastfeeding Counsels' participants on the techniques of breastfeeding Interact as a liaison between the WIC Program and healthcare providers, community-based organizations and hospitals Attend trainings and meetings as required by the State Attend WIC agency meetings and provide updates to staff Provides support to the WIC Program breastfeeding coordinator Interact in a professional manner and ensure confidentiality Other duties that may be requested by the
WIC Director Non-Essential Duties:

Education and Experience:
Education B.S. or Master's degree in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics Or Master's Degree in Public Health Experience 1 year of experience of working in a community-based nutrition program preferred 6 months of experience conducting outreach in the healthcare community preferred 2 years of experience as a WIC Lactation Educator Required Licensure and/or
Certifications:
Current lactation educator certification California drivers' license and current car insurance
