Job Description

JOB Vacancy is in Women, Infant & Children (WIC) program within the Health and Human Services Department. Under supervision, assists in planning and implementing a nutrition, breastfeeding and education program for WIC participants and staff. Conducts nutrition education classes and breastfeeding support to the WIC participants. Counsels medical and nutritional risk participants. Keeps WIC staff informed of current nutrition information. Cooperates with area hospitals in providing nutrition education and counseling. Assists in the collection, monitoring and entering of health data. Provides in service training to WIC staff. Supervises subordinate nutrition education personnel. Conducts a complete WIC nutrition assessment, determines and documents nutritional risk of WIC participants as appropriate, develops and follow-up care plans for high-risk participants.

Responsible for appropriate food package assignment and tailoring for WIC participants. Assures proper certification of eligible applicants. Assists with meeting State and Local regulations. Assists with outreach efforts in the community related to nutrition, breastfeeding and education. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform additional related duties. This is a CHPEA union position. The hours of work are 40 per week. •This is a grant funded position, renewable per term of contract. The City of Hartford is not obligated to fund this position upon termination of funding.•
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of material and child nutrition. Various ethnic food preferences and habits in the community. Social and welfare agencies, institutions, clinics and allied cooperating agencies in the community.
Ability to:
Supervise subordinates. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, outside agencies and the general public. Express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
