Job Description

School Nutrition Services - Registered Dietitian PURPOSE Support the school nutrition program through menu development, nutritional analysis and nutrient/allergy management.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary function of an employee in this class is to develop and analyze menus for nutritional content for School Nutrition Services (SNS). The primary duties of this position are to correlate allergen forms and plan special diets for students as needed and maintain nutritional compliance with USDA guidelines. An employee in this class may be assigned to other duties within the department. The work is performed under the supervision of the SNS Supervisor. The primary duties of this class are performed in a general office environment and may include driving to and from various district locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Develop and analyze standardized menus ensuring nutrition and USDA guidelines compliance;
  • Coordinates the implementation of individual dietary menus for students with specific nutritional and allergy needs;
  • Provide nutritional data per request and consults with physicians, school nurses, parents and guardians as needed for special dietary issues;
  • Provides interactive nutrition education materials to FFVP schools and oversees the FFVP Grant;
  • Responsible for documenting and maintaining compliance of the USDA Professional Standards training for all SNS employees;
  • Assists with the supervision of dietetic interns from University of Idaho and Idaho State University providing direct work responsibility related to menus, nutritional's, and other assignment-related duties performed through SNS;
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices. Other Duties and Responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP) & School Breakfast Program (SBP);
  • Food allergies, intolerances/sensitivities, medical conditions that require special dietary accommodations;
  • Health and safety procedures relating to food preparation and sanitation;
  • Operation of standard office equipment, including an office computer and job related software application;
Skills:
  • Basic math, accounting, and recordkeeping.
Ability to:
  • Follow written and oral instructions and observe office policies and procedures;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Maintain records efficiently and accurately;
  • Maintain effective working relationship with other district employees, supervisory personnel, vendors, and the public;
  • Maintain office, school, and individual confidentiality;
  • Use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;
  • Create forms and analyze reports using current technology;
  • Work with parents and students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with major course work in Dietetics, Food Science or Nutrition with eligibility of registration through Commission on Dietetic Registration within 90 days of hire date;
  • Five (5) years of experience in large food service operation or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work;
  • SNS experience preferred;
  • Valid Idaho Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person;
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, operate a motor vehicle and review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written/typed documents and text materials;
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and a personal computer and to make adjustments to equipment;
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to drive a motor vehicle, lift 20 pounds, sit and work at a computer keyboard for an extended period of time, and work in an office environment.

Yearly by supervisor.

To be determined by calendar year. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
