Job Description

Apply Description Job Summary Plans and delivers nutritional care to patients according to the physicians' diagnoses. Performs as a member of the multidisciplinary care team. Assesses patients identified by nursing service to be at possible nutrition risk. Exercises independent judgment under the general supervision of the Director Food and Nutritional Service. We continually pursue mastery and best practices in our field. Job Responsibilities Assesses nutritional status of patients according to established standards. Obtains necessary information from the medical record to determine patient's nutritional status. Develops nutritional care plans for patients of any age including neonate, child, adolescent, geriatric and terminally ill patients. Develops nutritional care plans based on the cultural orientation of the patient. Evaluates the results of nutritional intervention on the patient's nutritional status to determine the need to revise the nutritional care plan. Makes recommendations to help improve patient's nutritional status by consulting with physician on appropriate nutritional interventions. Assists in developing and implementing patient nutrition care programs and ensures consistency of programs. Interacts professionally with patient/family. Provides nutritional education and counseling to patient/family as ordered by the physician. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Requirements Requirements:
Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual education requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal, and CMS regulations. Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly. Completes required tests and returns in a timely manner. Attends annual review and required Inservice's. Maintains accurate records for use in the department's quality improvement CQI activities. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the mission statement of the department. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control. Bachelor's degree in course work approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Proof of passing the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Participates in continuing educational requirements to maintain registration and licensure. Licensed dietitian status for the State of Kansas.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
Basic computer knowledge.
Working Conditions:
Work is conducted in a clinical and office setting requiring extended periods of time sitting, walking, and standing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising patient care. Employee may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases, exposed to hazardous cleaning agents, body fluids and waste, occasional exposure to an unpleasant patient or unit elements. Employee will be required to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Employees may be required to exceed these levels and are also provided lift assists in patient care areas. These are baseline requirements for adequate performance of this job. Job duties are based on an average 8-hour shift but are subject to change dependent upon staffing volumes or other variables determined by the department director or Chief Support Officer.
