Full-Time Nutritionist/Competent Professional Authority (CPA)REPORTS TO
Director and Assistant Director of Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)CLASSIFACTION
Non-ExemptJOB SUMMARY
The Competent Professional Authority will provide nutrition services to WIC clients in accordance withMDHHS WIC
Division Policies and Procedures.RESPONSIBILTIES
Provide direct nutrition services to clients: Perform a complete nutrition assessment Assign appropriate food package Provide appropriate referrals Participate in the WIC Conference, webcasts, and trainings, to improve nutrition and program services, as appropriate. Participate and attend in-service training meetings and monthly agency meetings as scheduled. Determine the client's nutritional risk. Assess anthropometric and hematological data. Determine need for and authorize Class II formulas. Request local agency RD orMDHHS WIC
Division approval for Class III formula. Make referrals to nutrition, breastfeeding, health, public assistance or community services. Refer participants to other programs within the Urban League of Detroit as indicated. Document referrals per policy. Provide follow-up and documentation of care plan as assigned. Provide technical assistance and consultation to local agency staff and other health professionals in nutrition services areas. Perform WIC certification, recertification, category changes, transfers, and re-in statements for WIC clients including documentation in MI-WIC as required. Provide and document nutrition education to complete the certification and recertification process as outlined in WIC Policy and Procedure. Perform anthropometric measurements and biochemical procedures, assessing risk status, and assigning and monitoring risk codes to determine eligibility for WIC benefits. Refer and makes appointments for high-risk clients to see the WIC Registered Dietitian. Issue benefits and customize food packages to meet client needs following MI WIC policy. Works closely with the Program Assistant (PA) to ensure all necessary data is entered correctly into MI-WIC for certification/recertification. Maintain WIC files and records as necessary in assigned clinic. Order additional materials as needed. Log nutrition education into MI-WIC system as required per policy. Answer and screen telephone calls. Provide assistance accordingly and schedule participant appointments. Complete all data entry for MI-WIC to assign food packages and issue benefits for participants. Maintain EBT card issuance records and reports forMDHHS WIC
Division as required. May participate in outreach activities as assigned. Perform other tasks as assigned in order to meet agency objectives and deadlines. Assist with other projects as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
The Competent Professional Authority (CPA) shall possess one of the following credentials: Physician Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) Nutritionist (bachelor's or master's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics or Public Health Nutrition) Physician's Assistant (certified by the National Committee on Certification of Physician's Assistants or certified by the State medical certifying authority) Registered Nurse (RN) Dietetic Technician Registered (emphasis in community/clinical nutrition) Home Economist (Bachelor's degree with emphasis in nutrition)EXPERIENCE
Must have knowledge of growth and development and nutritional needs of infants and young children. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under time constraints. Possess good written and communication/telephone skills and computer proficiency. Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with other healthcare professionals, Urban League of Detroit & Southeastern Michigan staff and the public.OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Must have reliable transportation. Will be required to work evening hours on some days during the week. Will be required to work some assigned Saturdays throughout the year.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works primarily indoors. Travel may be required to Urban League of Detroit & Southeastern Michigan offices and other WIC Program sites with exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes.Job Type:
