Job Description

Brightwell Behavioral Health is a Joint Commission-accredited acute inpatient psychiatric hospital located in East Lansing, Michigan, and dedicated to serving Central Michigan's adult population. POSITION SUMMARY
The weekly nutritional services are designed to meet the specific needs of patients, offering both direct nutritional care and administrative management of the dietary department. This includes ensuring that menus and individual patient diets meet nutritional standards. Additionally, this role serves as a key resource for nutritional guidance within the dietary department, the facility, and its staff. The individual in this role is required to maintain active membership in the American Dietetic Association and be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience :
One year's experience in clinical dietary operations of a hospital preferred.
Education :
Bachelor's degree in dietetics.
Certification :
- Current registration with the American Dietetic Association. - Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Skills :
Knowledgeable in activities in the areas of patient food service and nutritional care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop menus and dietary patterns for common diets within the facility, in accordance with the facility's approved diet manual.
  • Regularly review and update policies and procedures for the dietary department.
  • Complete nutritional screenings and assessments for all patients in a timely manner.
  • Provide Performance Improvement Information and monitor progress as necessary.
  • Review and approve menus to ensure nutritional adequacy.
  • Monitor menu substitutions to maintain nutritional standards.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions for staff as needed.
  • Provide nutritional counseling and education to patients and families when required.
  • Develop new programs for patient care, such as Nutrition Education Classes for adults and geriatric patients, upon request.
  • Observe food preparation and service to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Annually review the diet manual and submit it for approval by medical staff.
  • Collaborate with the Pharmacist and Nursing staff to monitor and manage food and drug interactions.
  • Prepare and submit monthly consultation reports to the CEO/President and Food Service Manager.
  • Comply with all other applicable center and departmental policies and procedures.
