Job Description

We invite you to explore our opportunities today! UPMC is hiring a Registered Dietitian to join the Nutritional Services Team! This limited casual position is regionally based and could require local travel between UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon locations as needed. Schedule includes Monday through Friday day shift with some flexibility. l Weekend and holiday coverage could be required, as needed, for the position. This position will provide cardiac/pulmonary rehab nutrition education assistance. Qualified applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title & salary based on their experience and education. Dietitian salaries start at $24.55/hour! Dietitian II salaries start at $27.28/hour!
Dietitian:
Responsibilities:
Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care. Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units &/or committees responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement. Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team. As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements. Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition. Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities. As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications. Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care. Participate in department-based Quality Process Improvement activities with an ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice. Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
Dietitian II:
Responsibilities:

Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition. Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care. Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol. Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team. Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement. Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities. Provide in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department or facility level. Lead one department initiative annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice. Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement. As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements. As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualified applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title & salary based on their experience and education.
Dietitian:
For individuals who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) certification prior to January 1, 2026, a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics is required. For individuals who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) certification on or after January 1, 2026, a Master's degree in a Nutrition or Dietetics is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registered Dietitian within 6 months of hire. Licensed Dietitian within 9 months of hire. Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) Registered Dietitian (RD) Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
Dietitian II:
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with Registered Dietitian certification obtained before January 1, 2026, with 2 years clinical nutrition experience required. OR Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with Registered Dietitian certification obtained on or after January 1, 2026, with 1 year of clinical nutrition experience required.
