For over 20 years, The LunchMaster has proudly partnered with more than 100 schools throughout the Bay Area, Central Valley, and Los Angeles—delivering fresh, flavorful meals that both students and staff genuinely enjoy. The Menu Innovation & Nutrition Manager is responsible for developing, documenting, and maintaining student-focused meal programs that are nutritious, operationally executable, cost-effective, and compliant with federal and state child nutrition requirements. This role serves as a key partner to Operations, Procurement, Customer Success, and school district partners to bring new menu items from concept through implementation. The position owns recipe documentation, ingredient management, menu analysis support, product testing, and nutrition systems maintenance while helping drive menu innovation and student participation. The ideal candidate combines a passion for child nutrition with strong culinary curiosity, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of school meal operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recipe Development & Documentation Develop and maintain standardized recipes. Document ingredient specifications, yields, serving sizes, preparation procedures, and production requirements. Build recipe files that support rapid nutrition analysis and compliance review. Coordinate recipe updates when ingredients, vendors, or regulations change. Maintain recipe version control and approval processes. Nutrition Systems & Ingredient Management Maintain ingredient, allergen, nutrition, and formulation data within nutrition analysis software and internal databases. Build and maintain a centralized ingredient library. Ensure all product documentation is complete and current, including: Nutrition Facts Panels, Ingredient statements, product formulation statements, CN labels, Allergen information, yield documentation Partner with Procurement to evaluate new products and ingredients. Compliance & Regulatory Support Support development of compliant menus for USDA child nutrition programs. Prepare nutrition and meal pattern information for review by Registered Dietitians and compliance teams. Assist with administrative reviews, audits, and customer documentation requests. Monitor menu changes to ensure continued compliance with meal pattern requirements. Maintain records required for federal and state child nutrition program compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with:
Operations, Procurement, Food Safety & Quality, Customer Success, Sales Support district-specific menu customization requests. Assist with nutrition and menu documentation required for proposals and RFP responses. Participate in new account implementation and menu transition projects. Menu Development & Innovation Support menu cycle development for NSLP, CACFP and SFSP programs. Assist in planning seasonal menu rotations and limited-time offerings. Work closely with Operations teams to transition concepts into scalable production recipes. Assist in developing new breakfast, lunch, snack, supper, and preschool meal concepts. Product Commercialization Develop implementation plans for new menu items. Assist with ingredient sourcing requirements for new recipes. Support production trials and first-run execution. Track performance after launch and recommend improvements. Any additional duties assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Dietetics, or related field. 3+ years of experience in School nutrition and menu development Working knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs. Strong Excel and database management skills. Exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Strong project management and organizational skills. Understanding of CN labeling and Product Formulation Statements. Preferred • Experience with one or more of : NutriKids, PrimeroEdge, Computrition, Mosaic, CNIPS Registered Dietitian credential preferred but not required. K-12 vended meal experience.
