The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in nutrition and dietetics, with experience in acute and long-term care settings, and a passion for improving patient outcomes through tailored nutritional interventions. As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will provide expert guidance on nutrition management, care plans, and diagnostic evaluations to support patients with diverse cardiac conditions. Duties Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine nutritional needs, including weight management, dietary restrictions, and specific health conditions. Develop individualized care plans that incorporate evidence-based nutrition strategies for cardiac patients, including those requiring tube feeding or specialized dietary modifications. Provide expert counseling on weight loss, nutrition optimization, and lifestyle modifications tailored to cardiovascular health. Collaborate closely with medical staff to interpret diagnostic evaluations and adjust nutrition interventions accordingly. Supervise dietary department activities related to patient meals, ensuring adherence to prescribed diets and nutritional standards. Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems efficiently to document assessments, care plans, and progress notes. Offer health coaching sessions aimed at promoting long-term health improvements and disease management. Maintain current knowledge of physiology, geriatrics, acute care, and long-term care practices relevant to cardiac patients. Requirements Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from an accredited program is required. Proven experience in hospital or healthcare settings, particularly within cardiology or geriatrics. Strong knowledge of physiology, nutrition science, dietetics principles, and diagnostic evaluation techniques. Experience supervising staff or providing mentorship within dietary or healthcare teams. Familiarity with EMR systems used in hospital environments for documentation and patient tracking. Hands-on experience with tube feeding protocols and developing specialized care plans for complex nutritional needs. Background in dietary department operations, weight loss programs, and acute care nutrition management. Long-term care experience is highly desirable to support diverse patient populations with chronic conditions. The successful candidate will:
- Conduct patient assessments to evaluate their nutritional needs and develop personalized meal plans
- Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients on various health conditions and dietary restrictions
- Monitor and evaluate patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to their meal plans
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and trends in nutrition and dietetics
- Perform quality improvements initiatives such as patient satisfaction rounds and monthly test trays Skills
- Strong knowledge of human physiology and its relationship to nutrition
- Proficiency in conducting diagnostic evaluations to assess patients' nutritional status
- Experience with tube feeding/TPN/PPN and providing guidance on appropriate formulas and administration methods
- Ability to provide health coaching to patients, empowering them to make positive lifestyle changes
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate and motivate patients
- Strong analytical skills to interpret medical data and develop appropriate dietary interventions
- Good time management skills, be a self-starter and a team player
- Be able to work well with physicians, nursing and ancillary staff
- Be a credentialed Registered Dietitian and licensed in the state of Texas The ideal candidate will: Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients, focusing on individual dietary needs and preferences.
Develop, implement, and monitor personalized nutrition care plans, including tube feeding protocols when necessary. Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure integrated patient care. Provide education to patients and their families regarding nutrition-related topics and dietary management. Stay updated on the latest research in dietetics and physiology to apply evidence-based practices in patient care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to food and nutrition services within the various locations Qualifications
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential and Texas licensure required
- Experience in acute care across the lifespan continuum highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of physiology as it relates to nutrition and health management
- Familiarity with dietary systems and food service operations within a clinical setting
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Ability to foster a collaborative work environment.
