Job Description
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director, the Certifying Authority (CA) is responsible for certifying nutritional risk conditions at the time of certification and prescribing supplemental foods.
Education/Licensure:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college with at least 12 hours of food and nutrition and at least 6 hours of science. or • Nutrition Professional as defined by Texas WIC Policy for a Certifying Authority including: o Registered or licensed vocational nurse (RN/LVN) o Registered or Licensed Dietician (RD/LD)
Essential Functions:
According to WIC policy, performs and documents Certifying Authority duties, including nutritional risk evaluation and individual counseling. Attends training and other duties as assigned. Teaches nutritional education classes. Help prepare NE materials. Assists Technicians as needed. Performs assessments for non-contract formulas and completes formula exchanges.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the WIC program. Keyboarding and organizational skills. Writing and oral skills to allow effective communications. Skill in exercising discretion, confidentiality and use of sound independent judgment. Ability to change and learn new skills. Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the position.
Work Schedule:
Health District hours of operation (pre-determined number of hours for part-time) and other times when needed, which may include weekends. Back-up for satellites.
