Job Description

Position OverviewUnder the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Nursing Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for Gateway Center's Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF-1 and ICF-2), serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities within a highly regulated healthcare environment.

In addition to overseeing nursing services within the ICF Service line, the Director of Nursing Services serves as a clinical resource and consultant to other Gateway Center programs as assigned.

The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and oversight of nursing services, resident healthcare needs, clinical quality assurance, regulatory compliance, survey readiness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous quality improvement efforts across both facilities.

As a member of Gateway Center's leadership team, the Director of Nursing works in close partnership with the Director of ICF Services, Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDP), leadership staff, Direct Support Professionals, consultants, physicians, families, conservators, and community partners to ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered care that promotes health, safety, dignity, independence, and quality of life.

The Director of Nursing plays a critical role in advancing Gateway Center's mission while fostering a culture of collaboration, integrity, transparency, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Organizational ManagementServe as a member of Gateway Center's leadership team and participate in organizational planning, strategic initiatives, and operational improvement efforts.

Serve as a strategic partner in advancing Gateway Center's mission, organizational goals, and long-term service delivery objectives.

Partner closely with the Director of ICFandQIDPleadership staffto ensure alignment between clinical services, active treatment programs, regulatory compliance, and resident outcomes.

Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, professionalism, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and support to clinical staff andinterdisciplinary team members.

Participate in organizational committees, leadership meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.

Support recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, succession planning, and professional development efforts related to nursing and clinical staff.

Clinical & Resident Health ServicesDirect and oversee all nursing servicesforICF-1 and ICF-2 andprovide clinical consultation, training, and support to other Gateway Center programs, including Adult Residential Facilities (ARF), Medical Day Programs, and future service lines as assigned.

Conduct, review, or oversee nursing assessments, health evaluations, and resident healthcare reviews as required by regulation and organizational policy.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with attending physicians,medicaldirectors, and healthcare providersto ensure timely coordination of healthcare services, implementation of physician orders, continuity of care, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Serve as Gateway Center's primary nursing liaison to physicians and healthcare providers.

Ensure quarterly nursing summaries, annual assessments, healthcare plans, physician orders, medication reviews, and related clinical documentation are completed accurately and timely.

Regulatory Compliance and Survey ReadinessMaintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs) and other lines of business as needed.

Ensure ongoing readiness for surveys, audits, investigations, and licensing reviews conducted by California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Regional Center, and other regulatory agencies.

Lead clinical preparation, response, and follow-up activities associated with surveys, audits, investigations, and corrective action plans involving resident healthcare services.

Lead development and implementation of Plans of Correction (POC's) and corrective action initiatives when required.

Participate in investigations involving Serious Incident Reports (SIRs), unusual incidents, injuries, medication errors, allegations, and healthcare-related concerns.

Support annual, quarterly, monthly, and ongoing reporting requirements as required by licensing agencies and organizational leadership.

Participate in emergency preparedness planning, disaster response activities, infection prevention initiatives, and organizational risk management efforts.

Interdisciplinary Leadership & External RelationsServe as a key member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).Collaborate with the Director of ICF Services,QIDP's, consultants, therapists, physicians, behavioral specialists, and direct support staff to ensure coordinated resident care.

Provide clinical consultation and support to Gateway Center programs outside of the ICF service line, including Adult Residential Facilities (ARF), Day Services, Medical Day Services, and other organizational initiatives as assigned.

Provide clinical consultation and education to staff and interdisciplinary team members.

Promote effective communication and shared decision-making across departments.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with residents, families, conservators, advocates, Regional Center representatives, healthcare providers, and community partners.

Support family engagement and communication regarding resident healthcare needs and services.

Serve as a clinical representative of Gateway Center with physicians, healthcare providers, families, Regional Center representatives, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.

Participate in Human Rights Committee reviews and support implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of approved healthcare-related recommendations.

Minimum qualifications:

Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

Bachelor's degree in Nursingor a related field from an accredited college or university.

Valid California Driver's license with an acceptable driving record and proof of automobile insurance.

Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible nursing experience in healthcare, residential services, long-term care, developmental services, behavioral health, skilled nursing, intermediate care facilities, or related settings.

Minimum three (3) years of supervisory, management, or leadership experience overseeing staff, programs, or clinical operations.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
CPR/First Aid certification as required.

Compliance with organizational vaccination and health requirements.

Must maintain a valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license throughout employment.

Knowledge ofQualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP)responsibilities, active treatment principles, interdisciplinary team processes, and person-centered planning is required.

Must be able to respond to urgent clinical, regulatory, and operational matters outside of normal business hours as needed.

Must possess excellent assessment skills for health care concerns and ongoing preventive measures.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with leadership and problem-solving.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Healthor related field.

Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).Experience in Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF/DD-H), developmental services, Regional Center-funded programs, skilled nursing facilities, or other highly regulated healthcare environments.

Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) certification or eligibility preferred.

Experience utilizing electronic health record systems (EHR), electronic medication administration records (eMAR), Therap, or Similar healthcare documentation platforms preferred.

Knowledge of California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Regional Center systems, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
