Job Description

Mission The Assistant Director of Nursing has the responsibility and authority to carry out the duties outlined in the regulations of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Under the direction of the Director of Nursing/ Campus Director and Quality Assurance Director, the Assistant Director of Nursing provides administrative leadership for the Vocational Nursing Program and is accountable for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program. This position works cooperatively with the Director of Nursing and supervises faculty and staff and supports students in all nursing program areas. Education/Experience An assistant director of a vocational nursing program shall: (A) Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and (B) Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; (C) Have a minimum of three years' experience as a registered nurse; one year shall be in teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination or thereof, in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or have a minimum of three years' experience in nursing administration or nursing education within the last five years; and (D) Have completed a course or a course offered by an approved school with instruction (1) in teaching, (2) curriculum development, (3) administration, and (4) leadership/management Duties and Responsibilities Oversees recruitment, board approval (when indicated), hiring, training, development, supervision and performance of the faculty, and program staff Promotes a culture of professional nursing that embraces compassion and ethic-based practice. Assist students in identifying and utilizing available community services and resources to resolve personal issues impacting their satisfactory academic progress Facilitates the establishment of cooperative agreements/contracts for clinical practice sites and nursing education articulation Attend clinical affiliation meetings at the contracted agencies to facilitate communication and identify the impact of new student placements Maintains professional membership in the community, state, and national organizations to promote the college and nursing programs Assures that student to faculty ratios for patient care experiences are maintained in accordance with state board of nursing regulations Serves as program liaison with the state board of nursing and the nursing/health care community In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing will ensure the efficient process of licensure paperwork to the state board of nursing, including completing required coursework (graduation) and notifying the board immediately regarding student(s) eligibility to take NCLEX examination Ensures board receives faculty rosters, including current active CA RN licensure, prior to commencement of the initial cohort and when updated Ensures program compliance with requirements and standards of regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies Assists with student problem resolution, implementing policies and procedures, and student orientation and advising Maintains and reports student grades and attendance, and implements retention initiatives in accordance with policies and procedures Completes professional development activities to maintain expertise in accordance with CCI standards and identified needs Cooperates with the Campus Director and other CCI staff, including the student services, career services, and financial aid departments Clocks-in and -out accordingly Documents all private discussions with students pertaining to school using available vehicles such as incident reports, progress reports, and/or Student Advisement Form Submits mandatory weekly reports every Friday Attends all required meetings Reports any major problems to the Director of Nursing and Campus Director Maintain supplies and inventory, and order supplies sufficiently in advance to allow for shipping and/or notify clinical coordinator Uphold and enforce school policies, procedures, and codes of conduct Demonstrate professional behavior and demeanor at all times with students and staff Maintain appropriate confidentially with staff, and student matters, handling all issues and discussions with professionalism and respect Familiarize yourself thoroughly with school policy via the CCI catalog/handbook Responsible for the programs continued accreditation by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), and the Council on Occupational Education (COE) Collaborate with the Director to develop new academic partnerships, support faculty, and involve other experts as necessary, such as completing applications and maintain communication among CCI faculty Develop and establish a program calendar grid that accommodates all starts for the year Provide administrative support for detailed financial record keeping, tours, responses to requests for information, and the course catalogs, calendars, and scheduling Ensure correct protocols are being followed by VN faculty for each semester Advise and support the Director on long-term strategic planning, outreach opportunities and development of the CCI organization and program Coordinate, plan, and execute Advisory Committee meetings in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, and the Campus Director Responsible for the administration and supervision of the program Determines guidelines pertaining to admission, retention and recruitment of students Serves as a liaison between the Vocational Nursing department and multiple external agencies Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position of Assistant Director of Nursing of the Vocational Nursing Program Qualifications and Skills The Assistant Director of Nursing must be a registered nurse who is knowledgeable and current regarding the program and the policies by which it is administered. This person must qualify for authorization by state agencies to ensure that all programs are properly supervised in compliance with the requirements of Title XVI of the State Education Code and other state regulations. Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; Have a minimum of three years' experience as a registered nurse; one year shall be in teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination or thereof, in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or have a minimum of three years' experience in nursing administration or nursing education within the last five years; and Have completed a course or course offered by an approved school with instruction in (1) teaching, (2) curriculum development, (3) administration, and (4) leadership/management Current license as a registered professional nurse in good standing Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of program students, faculty, and staff Superior interpersonal and communication skills Proficient in MS Office, Internet, and course management software
