Job Description

Job Summary Peak Surgery Center is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to lead clinical operations within our Ophthalmology Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight of all clinical and nursing operations within the ASC, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. This leadership role oversees Pre-Op, Operating Room, Procedure Room, PACU, sterile processing, infection prevention, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical staff development. Our ASC specializes primarily in ophthalmic procedures including cataract surgery, cornea transplants, glaucoma surgeries, and related ophthalmic services. This position requires a collaborative, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is committed to operational excellence, patient safety, physician support, and exceptional patient experience. The DON works closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, clinical staff, and administration to support efficient surgical workflows, regulatory readiness, and continuous quality improvement. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Operations Oversee day-to-day nursing and clinical operations of the ASC Ensure safe, efficient patient care throughout Pre-Op, OR, and PACU Monitor patient flow, staffing, room turnover, and operational efficiency Collaborate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to optimize clinical workflows Serve as a clinical resource and leader for staff Staff Management & Development Supervise and support nursing and clinical staff Lead hiring, onboarding, training, competency validation, and annual evaluations Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented culture Coordinate staff scheduling and staffing coverage Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation Maintain compliance with CMS Conditions for Coverage, OSHA, HIPAA, and state regulations Oversee ongoing accreditation readiness, (Quad A standards) Ensure compliance with infection prevention, sterilization, and safety standards Participate in policy review and implementation Infection Prevention & Quality Improvement Oversee infection prevention and control programs Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives Monitor incident reporting, audits, quality metrics, and corrective action plans Support continuous improvement initiatives related to patient safety and operational performance Operational Oversight Collaborate with administration regarding supplies, equipment, staffing, and workflow improvements Assist with budgeting, inventory oversight, and cost management initiatives Promote operational efficiency while maintaining high standards of patient care Qualifications Required Active Colorado RN license in good standing Current BLS certification Minimum 3 years perioperative or ASC nursing experience Previous leadership or supervisory experience Knowledge of perioperative nursing standards, sterile processing, and infection prevention Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Preferred Ophthalmology ASC experience Experience with AAAHC, Quad A, or AAAASF accreditation Experience leading QAPI and infection prevention programs OR circulator and/or PACU experience
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
