Exempt Job Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) serves as a key leader in the nursing department, supporting the Director of Nursing in overseeing the delivery of high-quality resident care in our skilled nursing facility. This position helps ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (including CMS, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment standards), promotes resident-centered care, supervises nursing staff, and assists in maintaining operational excellence. The ADON assumes leadership responsibilities for the DON as needed and contributes to quality improvement, staff development, and positive resident outcomes. Key Responsibilities Assist the Director of Nursing with planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services across all shifts to ensure consistent, high-quality care for residents. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff (RNs, LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, and other direct care personnel), including participation in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions. Support development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice in alignment with current regulations and best practices. Conduct regular rounds on units to monitor resident care, assess wound/skin issues, review documentation, ensure proper infection control, and address immediate concerns. Oversee or assist with key programs such as wound care, infection prevention/control (including antibiotic stewardship), fall prevention, restorative nursing, and quality assurance/performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives. Participate in care planning, interdisciplinary team meetings, and resident/family conferences to ensure individualized, comprehensive care plans. Help maintain regulatory compliance, prepare for surveys (e.g., CMS, state inspections), and lead or support corrective action plans as needed. Assist with staffing coordination to ensure adequate coverage, monitor overtime/absenteeism, and promote a positive work environment. Complete administrative duties including reporting, record-keeping, physician order processing, incident/accident investigations, and other documentation as required. Foster a culture of resident dignity, rights, safety, and satisfaction while supporting staff engagement and professional growth.
Qualifications & Requirements Licensure/Certification:
Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Colorado (or compact license if applicable); current CPR/BLS certification required. Certification in gerontological nursing, wound care, or infection control preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric care; at least 1-2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of federal (CMS/Medicare/Medicaid) and state regulations governing skilled nursing facilities. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office. Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to resident-centered care, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement.
Pay:
$105,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
