About the
Role:
John F. Murphy Homes is seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Registered Nurse to serve as our Director of Nursing (DON) within our Intermediate Care Facility supporting adults with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs. The DON provides leadership and oversight to nursing and direct support staff while ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and a safe, supportive environment for the people we serve.
What You'll Do:
Provide leadership, supervision, and support to nursing and direct care staff Oversee daily nursing operations, staffing, scheduling, and clinical services Ensure compliance with state, federal, OSHA, and agency regulations Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and care plans Monitor medication administration, documentation, and healthcare services Collaborate with administrators, physicians, families, case managers, and outside providers Lead staff training, orientation, and ongoing professional development Support quality assurance initiatives and continuous improvement efforts Assist with budgeting, payroll accuracy, and departmental financial oversight Promote a positive team culture focused on safety, dignity, and person-centered care
What We're Looking For:
Current Maine Registered Nurse (RN) license required BSN preferred Minimum 3 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities Prior supervisory or management experience required Knowledge of ICF/MR regulations and nursing administration preferred Strong communication, leadership, organization, and documentation skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems preferred
