Job Description

Job Summary:
Long Term Care Director of Nursing The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care within the Care Center. The DON leads the Nursing Management Team and supervises all clinical nursing staff. This role ensures high standards of resident care, regulatory compliance, and efficient coordination between departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Ensure resident safety across all areas of care delivery. Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for all levels of nursing staff. Recommend and approve nursing staff schedules based on resident needs and within budget guidelines. Interview and hire non-professional nursing staff; consult with the Administrator prior to hiring professional staff. Conduct monthly staff meetings with Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. Define and revise responsibilities for nursing personnel, including job descriptions and shift routines. Promote the facility's nursing philosophy in daily practice, emphasizing relationships among nurses, residents, families, and coworkers. Support staff in resident assessment, care planning, documentation, and evaluation. Develop and update policies, forms, and procedures; train staff on proper implementation. Ensure proper use of materials, equipment, and facility resources. Collaborate with the Education Director to develop relevant in-service training programs. Provide comprehensive job-specific orientation for all nursing staff. Attend or lead required committee meetings. Supervise the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Coordinator and Assistant Director of Nursing. Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) activities to ensure clinical competency and compliance. Support interdisciplinary care through effective referrals and coordination with therapy services. Actively address and resolve communication challenges among nursing, families, departments, and consultants. Participate in preparation of the annual departmental budget and manage nursing operations within financial constraints. Oversee nursing assessments, MDS documentation, care plans, and their continuous updates based on resident condition. Monitor medication administration and coordinate care with providers as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator. Comply with all employee immunization and vaccination policies.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved school of nursing. BSN or Masters degree preferred. Current Nebraska License as a Registered Nurse. Previous experience as a Director of Nursing preferred. Minimum of 5 years experience in long term care.
