Job Description Summary:
This position is responsible for the overall leadership and direction to ensure expert, standardized, safe and evidenced based practices are in place across the Women's Heath (WH) continuum of care, at all care sites and at all settings. This position serves to support the Women's Health Clinical Guidance Council, in partnership with the physician accountable executive, to ensure that value is delivered to patients and families. In collaboration with the System VP of Quality, this position will ensure that all regulatory requirements, quality metrics, objectives and achievement of balanced scorecard goals are met. This position ensures delivery of evidence-based practice by professional nursing personnel and other staff in designated areas of responsibility through effective planning, organization and evaluation of the use of material, fiscal and human resources. Integrating the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of OhioHealth in all operations, this position provides direction and supervision to Nursing Directors, Managers, Nurse Administrators, Service Line Administrators, and other specialty roles. Collaborating with the Chief Nursing Officers she/he ensures one standard of care and practice for professional nursing and evidence based practice throughout the organization.Responsibilities And Duties:
Quality and Safety - 25% . Establishes and strengthens relationships with physicians and works closely with physicians to optimize quality of care, service and financial performance. Develops and facilitates execution of short and long term strategic plans to ensure superior quality and evidenced based practices are implemented across the system. Participates in the development of strategic business plans for WH. Continuously evaluates progress toward achievement of goals, objectives and strategies, making appropriate adjustments to variances. Serves as clinical expert and facilitator of quality initiatives. Establishes a strong partnership with care site and system leadership to facilitate relationships and work, both internally and externally, to regulatory agencies, payers, the community, referring physicians, hospitals and outlying communities. Works with care site directors to ensure effective implementation of technology to enhance quality such as eL&D throughout the systemClinical Excellence - 25% . Serves as nursing liaison to WH Clinical Guidance Council. Responsible for standardization and lateralization of nursing clinical and evidence based practice across the system. Establishes and maintains systems of clinical and administrative records and reports to meet standards of regulatory and licensing agencies and to provide an information base for effective administrative action. Functions as a resource to ensure APRN practice is within scope of practice yet functioning at top of license and education within guidelines of medical staff bylaws. Strives to provide a workforce that reflects population diversity. Ensures the delivery of culturally-competent care and ensures a safe and healthy working environment. Provides leadership and guidance to managerial and support staff in the ongoing operations of areas of responsibilityLeadership - 20% . Serves as liaison to Nationwide Childrens Hospital. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of organizational policies, procedures and programs . Interprets and facilitates the application and implementation of philosophy, objectives and standards; identifies methods and monitors achievement of relevant objectives and standards. Provides leadership in the assurance of a professional nursing practice environment in which registered nurses are autonomous, govern their practice, and are accountable to provide effective, efficient, safe, and compassionate quality care. Facilitates an atmosphere of participative management and the development of collegial relationships amongst nursing and other organization staff. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to achieve organizational health care goals. Serves as a professional role-model and mentor to motivate, recruit, and retain professional and unlicensed personnel. Responsible for monitoring compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies. Provides support for the conduct, dissemination, integration and utilization of research to ensure evidence-based nursing practice, healthcare and management systems. Advocates for resources to support researchPatient care - 20% . Implements an effective and ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality and appropriateness of nursing care delivered to patients; Ensures innovation and on-going evaluation of services provided by the department . Supports and facilitates outcome measurement and evidenced-based practice. Uses data from various sources to initiate quality and process improvement within the WH departments. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of: standards of nursing care and practice, nursing policies and procedures, nursing job descriptions, initial competency assessments, annual competency assessments, and, the nursing documentation systems . Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost and social impact of patient care services within scope of responsibilityProfessional Development - 10% . Develops and maintains professional competencies by attending educational and leadership programs and participates in professional and community organizations. . Seeks opportunities for publication, presentation and professional leadership in professional and community societies. Promotes an environment for learning; encourages and facilitates staff and management attendance and internal and external educational activities. Contributes to the development of management staff in administrative, leadership, and managerial skills and personal/professional goals.
