! The Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital has been helping patients recover from complex medical conditions and injuries since 2000. The first long-term acute-care hospital (LTACH) in the region, we help patients who are too medically fragile to transfer to a skilled nursing facility, acute rehabilitation hospital or their home after a hospital stay. In addition to general rehabilitation, our team is renowned for their expertise in ventilator weaning and respiratory care.
JOB SUMMARY
Serves as the leader, with day-to-day responsibility for the management and operation of the facility and works as a liaison between governing bodies, medical staff, and all staff members, residents, families, and the community. Directs health care services by planning, implementing, controlling, and evaluating health care delivery programs and operations. The Director of Nursing (DON) has the overall responsibility and is accountable for nursing practices in his/her area of responsibility. This position reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, The DON works collaboratively with Administration to operate their respective service line. The DON will foster the mission and core values of the GSRN in their daily practice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Leads daily operations for the nursing department
Recruits, selects, interviews, orients & trains staff
Maintains appropriate & adequate staffing ratios
Maintains a safe, secure, & legal work environment
Facilitates staff growth & development via meaningful, objective feedback
Coaches, counsels, & implements corrective action plans
Equitable enforcement of GSRN policies & procedures
Communicates through effective written and verbal communication skills
Implements plans & strategies to assure productivity standards are met
Establishes site strategic goals that are in line with corporate strategic goals
Contributes & works toward financial objectives
Prepares an annual site operational budget
Develops plans/takes corrective action to address financial variances
Leads action to achieve departmental goals and objectives in area of responsibility
Monitors/analyzes/resolves metrics (i.e. Press Ganey, FIM, productivity, etc.)
Develops leadership skills
Controls expenses
Routinely communicates GSRN, site specific information to associates
Markets programs and referral development
Serves as clinical resource

Supervises, trains, and evaluates nursing managers and their ability to lead their direct reports
Plans, monitors, and appraises job results
Develops and implements nursing policies and procedures

Recommends system improvements
Integrates the elements of examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis and intervention to optimize outcomes. Demonstrates evidence-based decision making when addressing practice changes
DOCUMENTATION
Uses objective measurements appropriate to substantiate care
Completes documentation on the date of service
Interventions selected match treatment delivered & meet regulatory standards (IE 3 hr. rule, 8 min. rule)
Documentation substantiates charges selected
Documentation meets clinical policy & procedure guidelines (frequency, timeliness-weekly/monthly notes & discharge instructions)
Monitors documentation of staff and, assures adherence to policies and standards
DEVELOPS AND ENHANCES PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or other healthcare is strongly preferred.
Work Experience
5-7 years of nursing experience are required.
3-5 years of prior managerial experience required
Licenses / Certifications
Must have an active registered nurse (RN) license in PA.
Certified NE-BC or CNEL within 3 years of hire
Certified Nursing Director for Long term Care locations within 3 years of hire (Long Term Care site specific)
Basic Life Support / CPR, as a healthcare provider, per the American Heart Association required
ACLS certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Certification must be maintained throughout employment
