This position assumes a primary role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient nursing care. In the absence of the Administrator, the Director of Nursing Services assumes those duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Proven leadership ability with three (3) to five (5) years of experience in nursing services administration. Documented training and/or experience in a setting providing services to the same age/type of patient population served by this facility. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate skills related to management, planning and budgeting. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to facility functions. Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Set and monitor achievement of goals and objectives for the nursing department consistent with established philosophy and standards of practice. Recruit and hire a sufficient number of qualified nursing staff to deliver efficient patient care in accordance with the established staffing plan. Establish, implement, and continually update competency/skills checklists for nursing staff. Prepare and assure adherence to an annual operating budget for the nursing department. Maintain and guide the implementation of current policies and procedures which reflect adherence to corporate and external regulatory guidelines. Assure compliance with patient rights policies and work to resolve patient grievances. Establish and monitor compliance with an effective medical record documentation system. Establish and maintain productive lines of communication with patients and families, internal staff, and external community. Prepare and submit reports on nursing department operations, as required. Actively participate in the quality improvement process for the facility. Participate in and/or provide inservice education sessions. Attend and participate in department/facility meetings, as required. Schedule, direct and document regular meetings with nursing staff to assure effective communication. Participate in facility program development activities. Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities. Assist surveyors and inspectors to facilitate regulatory compliance.
