Exempt Full-Time March 2, 2026 (revised) Position Summary The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic oversight of nursing services within an Inpatient Residential Treatment Facility with or without Detoxification Unit, and IOP/PHP settings. The DON ensures delivery of safe, high-quality, compliant, and patient-centered nursing care across all levels of care within the facility. This role provides executive-level oversight of nursing operations, regulatory compliance, staffing strategy, quality improvement, medication management systems, detoxification protocols, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Director of Nursing ensures adherence to applicable state Nurse Practice Acts, federal regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies across multistate operations (TN, TX, VA, FL, NC, IN, MS, AL). The DON is accountable for clinical excellence, patient safety, staff development, and operational efficiency within nursing services. This role serves as a member of the facility leadership team. Required Hiring Criteria (minimum qualifications) Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment, in good standing with the applicable Board of Nursing Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Minimum of five (5) years of progressive nursing experience Minimum of two (2) years of nursing leadership or management experience Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, detoxification services, and/or IOP/PHP programming Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification; ACLS preferred where applicable Demonstrated knowledge of state Nurse Practice Acts, medication management regulations, and healthcare compliance standards Ability to pass background screening, drug screening, and credential verification in accordance with regulatory requirements Substance Use Requirement (Role-Dependent)
  • Certain positions, particularly those involving direct patient care or recovery support services, require a minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety prior to employment due to the nature of the work and environment.
This requirement is job-related and consistent with business necessity. Desired Qualifications Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field Prior experience as Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursingin a behavioral health setting Experience overseeing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services Familiarity with Joint Commission, CARF, or other accreditation standards Experience managing multi-level care environments (Residential, Detox, IOP, PHP) Strong experience in quality improvement and performance management initiatives Primary Responsibilities Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for nursing services across Inpatient Residential Treatment Facility with or without Detoxification Unit, and IOP/PHP settings Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards Ensure safe medication administration systems, including controlled substance management and reconciliation processes Oversee detoxification protocols and ensure compliance with provider orders and state regulations Monitor patient acuity and staffing models to ensure safe and appropriate coverage Recruit, hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing leadership and staff Establish and maintain quality assurance and performance improvement programs for nursing services Ensure compliance with
HIPAA, OSHA, DEA
regulations, and applicable state licensing requirements Lead incident review processes and corrective action planning when necessary Collaborate with Medical Director, Clinical Director, and Executive Leadership to ensure continuity of care Prepare for and lead nursing components of regulatory surveys and accreditation reviews Monitor infection control programs and safety standards Develop and oversee nursing education and competency validation programs Manage departmental budgets, staffing costs, and supply utilization as assigned Serve as clinical authority and decision-maker for nursing-related issues Other duties as assigned by the Facility CEO or executive leadership Supervisory Responsibilities (If Applicable) This position has full departmental supervisory authority.   • Responsible for nursing department budget oversight, supply management,overtime management,and labor allocation, executes master departmental budget as directed by the Facility CEO/CFO Physical Requirements/Work Environment Physical Activities
