Job Title:
The Director Of Nursing (DON) The Director of Nursing (DON) reports directly to the Executive Director and medically to the Medical Director. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the DON works closely with the Clinical Director, Director of Operations and Admissions, attending providers, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, therapists, registered dietitians, kitchen staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team to support exceptional client care. The DON provides leadership and oversight of nursing services, supports admissions and clinical operations, and promotes clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and positive client outcomes. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
- Foster a culture of compassion, professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and client-centered care throughout the nursing department.
- Hire, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing personnel and Nurse Manager(s).
- Keep the Executive Director informed of significant nursing, compliance, staffing, client care, and operational matters affecting the facility.
- Monitor admissions communications and review prospective admissions for medical appropriateness and facility admission criteria.
- Perform and oversee medical intake assessments for new client admissions.
- Coordinate communication with the Medical Director, attending providers, and nursing staff.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and collaborate with clinical and operational leadership to support quality client care.
- Ensure compliance with physician orders, nursing protocols, facility policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Ensure contracted Nurse Practitioners adhere to facility policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Oversee medication management systems, nursing documentation, clinical records, and related quality assurance activities.
- Complete and oversee Joint Commission, HHSC, and other regulatory reporting requirements and maintain ongoing survey readiness.
- Collect, analyze, and report quality, compliance, and performance improvement data; identify trends, implement corrective actions, and monitor outcomes.
- Ensure staff complete assigned responsibilities, required training, assessments, and documentation in a timely manner.
- Coordinate special diets and medical nutrition services with providers, registered dietitians, and food service personnel.
- Maintain oversight of nursing supplies, medication inventory, and medical equipment.
- Provide nursing leadership and support to staff and facility leadership regarding admissions, client care concerns, nursing operations, and urgent clinical matters as needed.
- Assist with implementation of program changes, clinical initiatives, and operational improvements.
- Any other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises nursing personnel and provides direction to Behavioral Health Technicians within their assigned role and responsibilities. Hires, trains, schedules, supports, and holds nursing staff accountable to facility standards. Performs admissions screening with Medical Director and Clinical Director input. Attends Treatment Team meetings and works with facility leadership to promote quality patient care, staff communication, and clinical excellence. Oversees nursing supplies, regulatory compliance, Joint Commission readiness, and nursing department performance. Keeps the Executive Director informed of significant nursing, compliance, staffing, and patient care matters.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
- A college Degree in Nursing (ASN accepted, BSN preferred)- Licensed Registered Nurse NCLEX Certified
- Minimum of two years of nursing leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
- Must present good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must have knowledge of recovery and addictions
- Must have knowledge of psychiatric conditions
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse NCLEX certified, with a college degree in nursing (ASN or BSN).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have reasonable ability to do the following:
- Stand, walk, and sit during assigned shift hours.
- Have the ability to manually handle patient belongings with gloved hands.
- Be able to manually assess a patient as part of a physical exam.
- Reach, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Speak and have access to the special senses within normal limits (hear, taste, smell, etc.) as it applies to patient care.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 20 pounds.
