Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing to join our brand-new primary substance abuse treatment center. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily nursing operations, supporting clinical excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, and helping build a strong culture focused on patient care, safety, and recovery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on nursing leader with experience in behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, detoxification, or residential healthcare settings. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape nursing operations from the ground up at a growing treatment program dedicated to delivering high-quality care. Based on the attached document, the role includes oversight of nursing services, medication management, infection control, staffing, healthcare coordination, and regulatory readiness.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Responsibilities Oversee all nursing operations within the treatment facility Supervise nursing staff including nurses, charge nurses, and nursing support personnel Ensure safe and effective medication administration, storage, reconciliation, and documentation Maintain compliance with state regulations, healthcare standards, and internal policies Assist with developing nursing procedures, workflows, and quality improvement initiatives Support infection prevention and control practices throughout the facility Monitor nursing documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness Collaborate with providers, clinical teams, and executive leadership to support patient care Participate in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance management of nursing staff Assist with maintaining appropriate staffing levels based on census and patient acuity Monitor incident reporting, patient safety concerns, and corrective action planning Promote a positive and collaborative treatment environment focused on recovery and patient experience Participate in accreditation preparation and regulatory inspections Support emergency response procedures and crisis management when necessary The attached document specifically emphasizes regulatory compliance, medication management, staffing oversight, controlled substance monitoring, audit readiness, and collaboration with medical providers. Qualifications Active and unrestricted RN license in Virginia Prior nursing leadership or supervisory experience required Experience working in substance abuse treatment, behavioral health, detox, residential treatment, or healthcare settings preferred Strong understanding of medication administration and nursing best practices Experience with EMR systems and healthcare documentation Knowledge of infection control and patient safety standards Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and help build systems and processes CPR certification required Experience with regulatory compliance, audits, or accreditation processes is strongly preferred Preferred Experience Behavioral health or substance abuse treatment experience Detoxification or residential treatment experience Experience opening or growing healthcare programs Experience supervising multidisciplinary nursing teams Knowledge of controlled substance protocols and medication reconciliation
Pay:
$90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
