Job Description

Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) in Training at
Wake Robin Position Summary:
Wake Robin's Linden Health Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse to join our Nurse Leadership Team as an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) in Training. This role is intended for an RN who is ready to take the next step in their career and grow into a nursing leadership position in skilled nursing and long-term care. LPNs who are actively enrolled in an RN program will also be considered. At Wake Robin, we believe in creating a community where residents feel safe, supported, and truly at home. In this role, you'll work closely with the Director of Nursing and an experienced leadership team who are committed to mentoring and developing future leaders. You'll gain hands-on experience in both clinical care and leadership while helping ensure exceptional, person-centered care for our residents. This is a supportive, growth-focused position designed to strengthen your clinical and leadership skills, so that you can step into our Assistant Director of Nursing role with confidence and competence.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner with the Director of Nursing and leadership team to learn how to plan, organize, and oversee nursing services Provide day-to-day clinical support to nursing staff, serving as a resource and role model for quality care Participate in and gradually take on leadership responsibilities, including team coordination and shift oversight Support resident care planning, admissions, discharges, and ongoing assessments Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure residents' physical, emotional, and social needs are met Assist with staff education, onboarding, and competency development Learn and support regulatory compliance processes, audits, and quality improvement initiatives Help address resident and family questions or concerns with professionalism and empathy Gain experience with staffing coordination, scheduling, and daily operational needs
Qualifications:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) or current Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) enrolled in an RN program • 1-3 years of nursing experience Meaningful experience in long-term care, demonstrating a clear interest in pursuing a career in this setting Shows initiative and curiosity, with a genuine desire to learn, grow, and contribute to a resident-centered community in a leadership role Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to build positive working relationships Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively
Training & Development Timeline:
The ADON in Training role is designed to provide a structured yet flexible pathway into the ADON role. The length and pace of training will be tailored to the individual's experience, skills, and professional goals. For some, the transition may be shorter, while others may benefit from a more extended learning period. The full training program may take up to one year, with increasing responsibility and independence as competencies are developed. Ongoing mentorship, feedback, and support will be provided throughout the process. Successful completion is based on demonstrated competency across clinical, operational, and leadership domains—not just time in role. Upon completion, the ADON in Training is expected to transition into a fully independent ADON role at Wake Robin.
Schedule:
For current RNs, the schedule will primarily be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to support occasional evenings, nights, or weekends based on training and operational needs. Weekend on-call responsibilities are shared on a rotating basis among the nursing leadership team, approximately every 4-5 weekends. For current LPNs pursuing RN licensure, hours and scheduling will be coordinated to align with your academic program and may be structured as part-time to support both your education and on-the-job training. Upon completion of RN licensure, the schedule will transition to the above.
Salary Range:
$81,000-$101,000 annually during training for current RNs; $67,000-$81,000 for current LPNs. Upon successful completion of the program, the role transitions to ADON with a corresponding salary increase. Tuition assistance is also available. (Starting salary is determined based on candidate's experience, education, and relevant skills as well as internal equity considerations.)
