GENERAL SUMMARY :
Maintains overall responsibility and accountability for the operations of the inpatient rehabilitation department. Seeks to align services with organizational and community needs, focusing on integration of current evidence-based practices, cost-effective patient services along the continuum of care resulting in sustained contribution margins of involved hospital programs. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Ensures compliance with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
: Works under the supervision of Chief Nursing Officer or designee who reviews work through reports and standing meetings.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
: Exercises full supervision over inpatient rehabilitation department and nursing personnel and support staff engaged in program operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
: Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of care for patients while maximizing efficiency and productivity. Plan, develop, and implement rehabilitation programs for patients in collaboration with other healthcare providers. Communicate with other departments to coordinate efforts and resolve operational problems. Establishes and maintains effective interdepartmental working relationships. Investigate and resolve, when possible, problems and complaints of patients, visitors, and Medical Center staff. Refers unresolved complaints as appropriate. Manage and supervise nursing staff, support staff, rehab liaisons, rehab case managers, and rehab care coordinators. Interviews, selects, directs, counsels, and evaluates subordinates. Initiates appropriate corrective actions. Effectively recommends discharge as appropriate. Answers grievances. Maintains balanced schedule with personnel available. Identifies educational and training needs of department personnel. Promotes development through educational programs and specific task assignments. Participates in development and revision of written orientation plans for new employees. Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring the efficient use of resources. Maintain accurate records and documentation for patients, staff, and the department. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies. Work with the hospital administration to develop and implement strategic plans for the rehabilitation department. Participate in the hospital's performance improvement program and quality assurance activities. Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to patient care. Demonstrate effective judgement and ability to understand, react effectively, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of the patient groups served. Stay current with advances in rehabilitation technology, equipment, and techniques and incorporate them into the department's operations as appropriate. Maintain knowledge of research and progress in specific fields of patient care through appropriate educational and organizational activities. Demonstrate behaviors compliant with Hurley's values, goals, policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes new technologies or improvements that relate to job assignment.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing required. Masters degree in Nursing or Health Administration preferred. License and registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. Five (5) years of professional nursing experience including at least three (3) years in rehabilitation services. Two (2) years of management experience, including budget development, employee supervision, and development and implementation of policies. Ability to organize, plan, and manage multiple priorities in support of the overall goals of the Medical Center. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally. Flexibility to work, as needed, to address scheduling, coverage and staffing needs for this service as it is operational 7 days a week. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all disciplines both internal and external to the Medical Center.
