Job Description
Job Summary:
The Certified EKG tech (CET) has completed training through an accredited institution and has passed the EKG technical certification exam. The Certified EKG tech is accountable to and under the direct supervision of the clinic manager. EKG Technician operates computers and testing equipment hardware used in acquiring an electrocardiograph or Holter monitor placement in accordance with the physician order. Demonstrate the knowledge and skill to provide appropriate for developmental and cognitive age patient education and includes family or significant other when necessary to facilitate understanding required for patient cooperation during the procedure and to select correct or modified anatomical electrode placement and machine operation in the acquisition and assessment of an electrocardiogram recording results for quality useful in the diagnosis and care plan of the patient and to maintain a safe patient care environment. They demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity to cultural and religious beliefs of patients, visitors and staff. They demonstrate ability to use logs and software systems for the archival and retrieval of the digital and downtime paper results in compliance with the department work flow that leads to billing, HIPPA and archival compliance. They must demonstrate understanding of the software systems interfaces in order to recognize, resolve or report variances from normal expected workflow. They demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal supervision in the completion of daily tasks such as maintaining electrocardiograph machines, work area and software systems in clean, orderly and functional condition and to work with healthcare team to meet customer needs. Will cross train and serve in other areas of the clinic as needed.Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precepted phases of orientation to your job. Demonstrate aptitude with equipment including, but not limited to, Multi-line phone system, Windows based computers, Epic software, HealthStream, printers, fax, copier, manual/digital blood pressure monitor, EKG, Holter monitor system, Event monitors. Demonstrate aptitude with proper telephone etiquette and communications skills. Must be able to enter complete detailed messages into Epic and direct messages to the appropriate employee/Provider. Identify messages which need prompt attention versus those messages that can be entered into Epic for a return phone call. Assist providers with direct patient care and scheduling. Place/remove/download/scan holter monitors and instruct patients on how to prepare holter monitor log. Demonstrate aptitude with efficiency and teamwork. When your tasks are complete, assist coworkers or ask manager for additional tasks. Demonstrate aptitude and desire to cross train for other positions within the clinic. Cross trained employees enable our department to provide quality, efficient, effective care to our patients.Qualifications:
Education/Skills High school graduate or equivalent required. Knowledge of medical terminology and computers required. Successful completion of training through an accredited institution and has achieved a passing score on the EKG technical Certification exam.Work Experience:
Experience working in a patient care setting preferred.Mental Demands:
Ability to perform repetitive tasks, demonstrate initiative, good understanding of normal EKG recording, machine malfunction or interference, and alertness to detect evidence of irregularities in electrocardiogram. Have "sincere interest" in being capable, dependable, and reliable and thoughtful and responsive at all levels of engagement with health team and patient customers.
