Summary As an Emergency Medical Technician, you will provide immediate pre-hospital care and transportation to patients experiencing medical emergencies. You will work closely with other EMTs, paramedics, and healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care in accordance with state and local protocols. FTE & Hours 0.001 FTE | TR/PRN•As Needed | Shift may vary based on departmental needs Essential Duties Respond promptly and safely to emergency calls as directed by the dispatcher, providing efficient and effective care to patients at the scene and en route to healthcare facilities. Conduct initial patient assessments to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priority for emergency care. Administer BLS procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillation (AED), airway management, bleeding control, and splinting. Provide emergency medical care to patients following established protocols, including administering oxygen, assisting with emergency childbirth, and managing traumatic injuries. Safely transport patients to medical facilities, monitoring their condition and providing care during transit. Communicate effectively with dispatch, other emergency response teams, and receiving medical facilities to ensure seamless patient care and coordination. Complete accurate and timely patient care reports, including assessments, treatment provided, and patient responses. Inspect and maintain ambulance and medical equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, and properly stocked. Adhere to all EMS protocols, state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures. Interact professionally with patients, families, and other members of the public, providing a high level of customer service and support. Promotes a positive attitude towards their job and promotes positive teamwork with peers. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. Responsibilities Required Experience Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds Must be able to perform job duties in all weather conditions and at any time of day or night. Preferred Experience Previous experience as an EMT preferred Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. Required Education/Licensure High school diploma or equivalent Valid EMT certification by the Illinois Department of Public Health or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) As of 9/22/2025, staff must obtain a valid Illinois Class C drivers license within 30 days of this date or of hire 18 years of age to meet insurability in Riversides vehicle insurance program Must provide proof of a valid driving record to meet insurability in Riversides vehicle insurance program Valid BLS certification This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
